Heroes
People who refuse to take "no" for an answer, recognizing that "no" to one goal path only means "yes" to another.
I am a 37 year old man (5'9", 125lbs) looking to spend time with someone special, someone who enjoys talking about varied political and religious philosophies, great stories in movies and literature, as well as science, electronics, and gaming. My given name is Randall, but my family and closest friends call me Randy. I work in human services, which can be a combination of frustration and deep reward, but is a good proving ground for learning when to be permissive and when to be firm on boundaries.
I can be a little shy around new people but, once I get to know you, I can warm up pretty quickly. In matters of intimacy, I'm looking for someone gentle and understanding, a strong feminine personality that can gently tease and subdue me, (whisper the word "soft" into my ear and I'm yours). Candlelight, potpourri scents, and Dave Matthews Band makes for some great romantic ambiance. In conversation, I know most men could be better listeners, and I'm working to become a better man myself. It is difficult to filter out voices in crowded environments, but that's an auditory processing issue many share.
I cherish my friends and fiercely protect my relationships with them and those that exist between them. I am blessed with a mother who encourages me to achieve more than I (or most of her family) believes possible. Kids are not on my radar at the moment, but just one child might be nice someday. If you want kids, or you already have one or two, that's okay with me. I like teaching, reading, and playing with children.
I spend my free time researching or writing on subjects such as Neurodiversity Awareness, philosophy, psychology, neuroscience, hard sciences, real-estate, and technology (a note, short story, or blog entry). I enjoy photography (and photo editing) and read magazines, books, and watch movies (fantasy, science fiction, science & nature, documentaries, action, romance, comedy, or gothic), but I prefer to watch movies with a friend. I have a wide variety of music tastes (both Christian and secular) and enjoy online team-based multiplayer video games (real-time strategy and first-person shooters). In the summer, I enjoy nighttime illuminated Frisbee, bicycling, and occasional hiking/beach combing.
A perfect day? Climbing the Beehive in Acadia National Park (ME), camping in Franconia Notch (NH), a picnic on Boston Common with young idealists from the SoJust Meetup group (MA), walking the dunes and wading in the tide pools of Plum Island (MA), taking in the aromatic scents of the nighttime WaterFire festival (savoring pubs and street vendors along the way) in Providence (RI), a weekend exploring Long Island or the Adirondacks (NY), or checking out the annual Phantom Gourmet barbecue beach party (MA).
I don't come from a privileged background or perfect family, but I've learned over the years that nobody really does. It is important that you be honest with me, but no less important that you be honest with yourself. I'm looking to buy a duplex or 3-unit home within the next two years, so I can generate a passive income, pay down my principal, and build equity quickly. An appreciation of real estate assets and a concept of cash flow are helpful. While I appreciate shared spiritual and financial values in a relationship, my heart's desire is to listen, empathize, discover, and share life's journey with a friend at my side.

It is never too late to learn great things!
Two of the twenty questions I guessed on. If I got one of them right, I may be just a bit more average than my score would suggest. I'm no genius. I'm no retard either.
It IS possible for those with learning and developmental disabilities to analyze properties for their investment potential, secure a reasonable rate for a mortgage, and purchase a multi-unit house (with a minimum of assistance).
It IS possible for those with learning and developmental disabilities to understand cash flow, manage finances, and live as an owner-occupier in one of the units they own, maintaining good relations with neighbors and building equity (a retirement nest egg) with the rental income.
It IS possible for a non-profit charity to find appropriate investment properties on behalf of those with learning and developmental disabilities who would rather own than rent (and receive the benefits of rental income rather than give it away). It IS possible for a charity to act as property manager and a legal resource for such clients for as long as they are willing to pay a reasonable sliding fee for this service. Such a charity would facilitate community contacts for their clients through their web site and coordinate social events and services with other charities that serve the learning and developmentally disabled. A modest percentage of the rent as a property management fee, plus tax-exempt status and fund-raising activities would probably be necessary to balance the books, though.
It IS possible for those with learning and developmental disabilities to support themselves, be part of their local community, and share in their own self-advocating community (perhaps with the aid of rental income and the support of a charitable organization such as the one described above).
It IS possible to create an Autism/Asperger community similar to LeisureLand, but create a trailer park for mobile homes rather than travel trailers where men and women on the Autism Spectrum can afford to buy a home and live in a shared community. Non-profit status would allow solicitation of operating funds so that clients can live there lease-free and get assistance with activities of daily living in a larger community-based setting than a standard group home.
It IS possible for adults with Asperger's Syndrome and other developmental disabilities to recognize that any long-term relationship is hard work because it involves supporting their partner's goals and values (and to know what they want for themselves). It IS possible for such individuals to be an emotional anchor in stormy seas and a support for their partners. They may still end up getting hurt, but "it is better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all". They have the same right to take chances with the heart that we do, because its expression is fundamental to both human nature and the human spirit.
