    PFLAG of Las Cruces's Interests
GeneralOur interests are fairness, understanding, equality, advocacy, education, safety and the list goes on.
BooksOur Trans Children, Fifth Edition (this is the newest version of the PFLAG Transgender Network (TNET) cornerstone publication. The book is an introduction to trans issues especially for parents of “children” of all ages., Se Tu Mismo (This is the Spanish translation of PFLAG's publication, Be Yourself. The book is a great resource for Spanish-speaking youth and families), Our Daughters and Sons: Questions and Answers for Parents of Gay, Lesbian and Bisexual People. One of our most popular publications, this is a "must read" for parents who are forming new and honest relationships with a loved one who has come out to them), Nuestras hijas y nuestros hijos: Preguntas y respuestas para padres de gays, lesbianas y bisexuales. A culturally appropriate Spanish translation of "Our Daughters and Sons," (this booklet is a valuable resource for Spanish-speaking families coming to terms with homosexuality and bisexuality), Faith in Our Families: Parents, Families and Friends Talk About Religion and Homosexuality. Discovering that a loved one is gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgendered can pose new questions about your faith and may prompt you to re-evaluate beliefs that you previously took for granted.    PFLAG of Las Cruces's Blurbs
About me:
PFLAG Las Cruces has been in existence since 1995, when Sue Brown learned that her daughter Marika was a lesbian. Sue, her mother Emily and many others set out to form a support group for their gay and lesbian loved ones to form PFLAG of Dona Ana County or more commonly known as PFLAG Las Cruces. Since that time, the members of PFLAG Las Cruces have worked tirelessly to advocate for our gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered loved ones in Southern New Mexico. Some of our accomplishments include an annual fundraiser that unites allies and members of the LBGT community to come together, socialize, support and learn about advocacy for the community. We have had 12 of these fundraisers and have had to move locations from our beloved Fountain Theater in Mesilla to the Hershal Zohn theater on the New Mexico State University Campus. The proceeds from this event go to recipients of the Susan C. Brown scholarship for NMSU students, basic operational costs for PFLAG Las Cruces, yearly donations to EQNM, Lambda Legal, The Normal Heart Community Ventures, Southern New Mexico Pride and El Paso PFLAG. We also utilize a portion of the operations funds to send chapter members to regional and national conferences. We are very blessed to be supported by an active community who values equality and fairness for everyone. In addition to our annual fundraisers, PFLAG Las Cruces also participates in LGBT panels on the NMSU campus, sensitivity training for the Las Cruces Police Department, door to door advocacy for legislative issues that affect the LBGT community, partial sponsorship of the Southern New Mexico Pride events and monthly informational meetings that are open to everyone. We are always looking for more friends, parents and allies to join us in creating a fair and safe place for those that we love who are Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual or Transgendered. If you would like to attend one of our monthly meetings, please email us and we will provide you with contact information and location. We would love to see you. Due to privacy and safety issues for our members and friends, we would prefer initial contact before giving out personal information. Thanks for understanding.
Who I'd like to meet:
We would like to meet everyone in Southern New Mexico who believe in fairness, equality and advocacy for our loved ones who are Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgendered. We all believe we are better off because of the LBGT folks who are in our lives and can't imagine our world without them.
