Phase 4 won me over with their set of well orchestrated ska songs that got the audience skanking in the front. The sax, a trumpet and a trombone added that characteristic brassy layer of sound to the strings and they pumped out a set of highly enjoyable tunes with a big dose of enthusiasm and energy. A large ensemble, they have now established themselves as a very welcome addition to Leicester's significant ska tradition
Review of a gig at The Shed, 11th April 2009
Ska-Punk bursting with energy and ideas, they played at a furious pace its an infectious and compelling direction that really works for the band. . its impressive how well they bring it all together, with fast beats, catchy riffs and a powerful brass section combining flawlessly for an urgent, upbeat direction that is genuinely exciting. All clearly skilled musicians they delivered a whirlwind of a set, performing with charisma and enthusiasm that saw them deservedly receive one of the most positive responses of the evening from the Flapper crowd.
Review of Phase 4s Surface Unsigned 1st round performance
Their sound is ska-punk rock bursting with energy and happiness throughout The Asylum. They stood out drastically from all of the other bands this evening mainly because of their genre but not only because of that but also because of the level of showmanship these guys were giving on stage. They’ve had some press interest already with radio interviews and this goes to show how great they could be. A Tight brass section pulled together with the rest of the band to give a great show tonight.
Review of Phase 4s Surface Unsigned 3rd round performance
It’s never been easy for ska music. Throughout the decades, ska has often found itself playing second fiddle (or horn, perhaps?) to the latest big fad, as it works its way out of the charts just as quickly as it wormed its way in. But, with a healthy dose of feel-good ska punk, Phase Four, or Ph4se if you like, aim to turn heads, change minds, and tune people back into ska. With their on-stage persona ever-popular with audiences, and a memorable set list under their collective belt, Ph4se are going from strength to strength, along the way performing alongside a multitude of talented acts, and competing and performing on various stages, ranging from charity events to Battle of the Bands competitions. Hoping to raise a lot more awareness to causes close to their hearts, they have already raised over £700 towards breast cancer awareness, and performed at events such as“Cultures of Resistance" Ska Punk nights.
Indeed, since their humble beginnings in 2006, Ph4se have gone from playing in cosy little practice rooms (God bless Big Wheel practice rooms!) to performing on various stages alongside such acts as The Splitters, Hypo Psycho and Smokin’ the Profit. With the release of their debut E.P,“Sounds Like a Plan", Phase 4 are fast becoming a prominent name within local ska circles, and don't seem set to stop skankin’anytime soon!
Have fun, have a nice day.”
"Phase Four strongly recommend Hideout Studio if you or your band are looking into recording. Whether you're a studio virgin or a weathered vet, Hideout Studios will produce a record exactly the way YOU want it. Great, relaxed working atmosphere, great equipment, GREAT people (Gray and Ash White - the dynamic duo - you couldn't have been better hosts to us), great times!"
A Hideout Testimonial (Check their website if you don't believe us!):
What can we say about Phase 4.....? Well, this is how a band should be. Great bunch of guys, each and every one and definitely one of the coolest band we've had in so far. We had the pleasure of their company for a week, to record their new demo. The Hideout team have made 7 new good mates, and we wish them all the success they deserve (which would make them HUGE!!) Good luck guys.
