Sounds LikeNOTES ON PHARMACY SPIRITS/THE BAD SECTS: Pharmacy Spirits, “every song ended in 1994” "When the Bad Sects lost its bassist James Pelter in early 2007, its remaining members Courtney Nore and Jim Reilly knew they still wanted to make music together. While they searched for a replacement bassist they changed the band’s name and recorded an EP worth of songs that became “every song ended in 1994.” The result is a five-song (one is hidden) collection of songs that makes for a great sampler start to the direction Pharmacy Spirits is headed. The songs would easily fit in a group with any number of 1980s new wave bands that made a name for themselves combining the ethics of garage rock with more electronic sounds created with pedals and computers. Fans of bands as varied as Built to Spill and the Cure could have fun with a half hour to burn and some headphones, and by the time track three, “Can’t Say No,” rolls around I’ve been lulled by the mellower rhythms of “Excuse Me Lady” before being yanked into a sharper reality courtesy of Nore’s frantic drumming behind Reilly’s haunting vocals. I’m appreciative of the chance to get to know even a limited number of songs from Pharmacy Spirits as they play shows in Lincoln and Omaha from time to time, and the more music I’m familiar with the more typical it is for me to have a great show experience." – OMAHA CITY WEEKLY Jan 2008 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Pharmacy Spirits - "Theme Song" Download "My first thought when seeing these guys live was Built to Spill. Hard rocking, but intricate in the way the songs build up, it's easy to get lost in the moment when listening to this band." -THE DAILY NEBRASKAN --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Bad Sects closed out the show, and holy shit! Jim Reilly looked like he was wrestling with demons who had taken posession of his guitar. The exorsism began on their first song and lasted through the end of their set, where in the end, it appeared as if Jim had been successful. I've never seen such intensity from Jim before, and I only wish that more people had been there to see it. His guitar playing was on fire! It might have been their best show ever, certainly one of the top 3. They broke out several new songs, I think the names were "Oh No", Wasting Away, and I don't know what the last one was called. I liked all the new ones a lot, and they clearly show the band developing in their writing. I should be getting an advance copy of the bands as-yet unreleased CD, so you may be hearing some of their stuff on SCS Radio pretty soon. - Tery Daly --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Bad Sects closed the show with Lost In The Supermarket and We Want The Airwaves, in their own unique way. Their Clash cover was played almost dirge-like, compared to the way The Clash recorded it, and their version of Airwaves rocked harder than The Ramones ever did it! The way this X Vs. Y stuff works is: the audience votes for which band did the best Ramones cover and which band did the best Clash cover. The winner of best cover of The Clash was The Bad Sects-Star City Scene -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Bad Sects-- mellow melodies and urgent vocals make --Excuse Me Lady-- one of those tracks that will repeat in your head for hours-Ground Zero 2006

   About Pharmacy Spirits
"Music sick with passionate fashion, and that's a good thing. The sound of The Cure rubberized for the oughts, the oughts ratcheting up the New Wave tension for tomorrow's nostalgic reveries... But TODAY...au courant... Music for you & your autumn sweater." - CHAZ L. ----------------- TOTALLY SOLD OUT! ..

I didn't say nuttin'...but I've been trying to tab Can't Say No being a guitar player myself...love the riff...once again I indulge your sound and is it really just Jim and Courtney on the e.p.? Unbeleivable...good luck with what you guyz do K! Love Baker...by the way I don't know who Sean Moon is but I'm unfortunately not related to him unless there something I don't know...AHHH!

Before I got dressed today, I punched myself dutifully in the stomach; a tried and true method to soften the bristles, and then I looked in the mirror and said "GO!!!" Perhaps due to my advancing age, this time though I doubled over fetal-style clutching the disposable razor. Worse, Mother was watching, standing by the bathroom doorway. She said, "Don't cry. Whatever you do, Heller, don't cry.
