Writer, editor, curator GARETT STRICKLAND was born and raised in rural Southern Ohio, in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. He moved to Portland shortly after graduating high school, and has been there ever since.
In 2006, he founded the monthly PHASE ONE: WORDS + MUSIC series, an interdisciplinary showcase featuring readings, musical performances, and occasional performance art. The series ran for nearly two years, and featured a wide array of talent, including readings from Jonathan Raymond, Stacey Levine, Matthew Stadler, Kevin Sampsell, Monica Drake, Lidia Yuknavitch, Matt Briggs, Trevor Dodge, Corrina Wycoff, and Frayn Masters - as well as performances by Jackie O'Motherfucker, Parenthetical Girls, Arrington de Dionyso, Tara Jane O'Neil, Alela Diane, Dragging An Ox Through Water, Adrian Orange, Laura Gibson, Mattress, Pash(ly), Adam Gnade, Bird Costumes, Modernstate, and Hooliganship.
Most recently, he is co-founder and curator of the UNWIN-DUNRAVEN LITERARY ECCLESIA (www.unwin-dunraven.org), a new literary convergence encompassing a quarterly reading & performance series, finespun publications, special events, and extensive online archives. The Ecclesia places particular emphasis on work and research exploring themes of gnosticism, alchemy, and the occult.
He is currently at work on two story collections, two screenplays, and several chapbooks.
