Quand l'art est une activité artisanale, ses règles sont inhérentes à la pratique qui consiste à travailler d'après des modèles. Mais ceux-ci varient d'un lieu à l'autre, ainsi que l'habileté des copieurs et le jugement des maîtres. Il y a donc toujours place pour un cas particulier pouvant modifier la règle générale. Par cette voie, l'exceptionnel, le nouveau, peut apparaître.
A l'inverse, une Académie centralise toute l'activité artistique et unifie les normes et les jugements de valeur. (Les activités plus humbles qui échappent à son autorité sont dédaigneusement traitées d'art primitif ou populaire.) Et les règles, au lieu d'être déduites d'exemples ou de modèles, sont prescrites d'une façon abstraite, de sorte qu'elles réduisent et inhibent l'imagination de l'artiste avant même qu'il ne commence à travailler.
L'académisme s'efforce de rendre l'art conformiste au moment où, pour des raisons sociales et artistiques, sa tendance naturelle est d'être centrifuge et divers. Dans certains cas l'académisme peut sembler progressiste mais il est toujours mortel pour l'art.
... L'académisme ne peut reposer que sur une hiérarchie de catégories établies; il en a besoin pour l'application de ses lois générales et purement théoriques ainsi que pour le fonctionnement de son système de récompenses et de contraintes.

Ce deuxième disque de Colorblind est résolument contrasté. Le groupe compose, ici, un opus à la mesure de la diversité de ses références musicales. Pour preuve, l'excellent et emblématique - " The Devil and the Nun " - conjugue une voix de baryton rocailleuse - rappelant le jeune Tom Waits - avec un falsetto tout en fragilité - évoquant Jeff Buckley. Le tout est servi par une instrumentation bigarrée ( contrebasse, Fender Rhodes... ) que n'aurait pas reniée Nick Cave.
Si, comme dans leur album précédent - "Under a Paper Moon" (Phénix Records - 2007), le fil rouge de l'album est tissé principalement par la voix de Vito, ce nouvel album - "Anywhere out of the World" - offre une diversité d'ambiance musicale plus large que son prédécesseur. Aussi passe-t-on d'un riff électrique efficace dans "Blue Sky" à des accents accoustiques plus nuancés dans "Revolutions", d'une lente ballade pop ("Hello") à des bricolages de studio sparklehorsiens ("Coldroom"). Certains titres semblent échapper à toute classification, ainsi, "Anywhere out of the World", véritable concentré de dopamine et "Leaving here" comptine désarticulée qui clôt magistralement le disque.
Ecrit, pour la plus grande partie, pendant la tournée qui suivit la sortie de leur premier album et enregistré sur deux ans, "Anywhere out of the World" est résolument rythmé. On sent l'influence d'un batteur-producteur tout au long du procédé d'écriture des chansons. Ces dernières intègrent plus systématiquement la batterie, donnant à l'ensemble des morceaux un couleur pop-folk. Un album léché dans lequel Colorblind a su préserver sa fragilité et canaliser ses émotions.
Le groupe pousse même le vice jusqu'à recommander l'écoute de la première partie de l'album plutôt le jour et la seconde la nuit. Autrement dit, un disque crépusculaire propice aux errances de l'imagination.
