During my never ending musical apprenticeship ancient civilisations have fallen and flotilla's of spaceships have kidnapped me and probed every orifice in my body. In between, I have been married, divorced, bankrupted, had children, changed locations to protect my obscurity and failed to learn the F chord on my geetar. I have travelled distant lands, had my heart broken on a number of accasions and up till recently have failed to be sucked into dominant economic paradigms. I have come to the realisation that we are all economic slaves to credit. This realisation has helped me finance my last 3 cd's. Welcome to the world I hear you snigger. I have a distatse for industry, especially the art and music ones and yearn to hitch a ride with lucy in the sky with diamonds to cloud 9. I've been waiting for a while. But being of an artistic temperament I have learnt to be patient. Pateience is not necessarilly a virtue.
The wellspring of my music is my writing. I have suitcases and milk crates at home full of napkins, coasters, toilet paper and sandwich wrappers crammed with my thoughts. Sometimes these become poems, sometimes songs, sometimes flotsam and jetsom stuck in some dark corner in the house. The 3 cd's I have created have some golden oldies within them as well as new material. The last song i wrote "change the world" is the most recent thing i have written. Also on the album "my theory of everything" is the track "the heart is a mirror" which was written over 20 years ago. Its weird how some old stuff is incredibly relevent to now.
The 3 cd's i have created defy any marketing logic and represent 3 entirely different approaches to music, the first "the king of fairy meadow" is mainly rock stuff, the second "sublime point" contains laid back techno and is a result of having new software and too much time on my hands. My third "my theory of everything" puts poetry and spoken word over a mixture of electronic, digital and accoustic music. Some of the electronic tracks were originally recorded over 20 years ago on reel to reel. I replayed them in reverse and digitally remastered them. They form the back drop for the song "win win win" which is
condemnation of the many social myths we conform to as a society. I love sound collages and am always weaving that approach into my recording material. After 3 cd's in 3 years I want to get back into playing live music which wont feature as much collage material and probably be more accoustic rock stuff plus playing some world music instruments I have picked up over the years.
