ALL SONGS WRITTEN BY PHIL AVALOS (c) 2005-2006, BMI.
Lo-Fi Indie Rock for Cads!!! Amen to simplicity, original voices, super melodies and 'that sound'! Just holding up the indie rock torch and keeping the mosquitoes away...Music has destroyed my heart, tortured my soul and has been very close to killing me but I hold on for some reason.

Check out the new One Kind Radio podcast @ www.onekindradio.com for November and hear "The OKR Theme Song" written by yours truly - Phil Avalos especially for John Bowles and his show! This show features the best local and indie music from Chicago and bands coming thru Chicago every month! Respect this man for his passion and dedication to local music! I can't say enough, he's becoming an Icon!
My new internet full length album - "Let Down Big Time (The Living Room Tapes)" is up now. All acoustic guitars - rock, folk, pop & totally lo-fi (ie. true-bedroom, home-recorded, real noise, tape hiss meaning). This entire release was recorded, performed and written by me for me for once.
Plus, a Christmas single is finally on the way. After years of promises, false starts and good intentions "You Can't Make Me (Write A Song About Christmas)" will finally see the light of day real soon...this single will be backed with my pop genius "It's That Easy" & "Heart Strings".
CD REVIEWS
ONE KIND RADIO REVIEWS -
"Phil has been bringing us great indie rock here at Onekindradio.com since we started in 1997. His latest release A Dater's Guide To Dying picks up where he left off on his earlier release staying true to his fans with his Husker Du/Guided By Voices sound that has turned heads in the indie community for years. Like Matthew Sweet, Mac McCaughan, or even Black Francis, Phil has a knack for writing well constructed songs with great hooks and witty lyrics. I do hope to hear this disc on more radio stations and catch him live on stage once again... because this snapshot of a recording is great... but the raw energy is released only in his live shows! Tracks of interest: "The Boy Who Kicked Out His Soul", "Kill Me Love", "Rocket Arms" and "Go!" Reviewed by John B.
LEFT OF THE DIAL (ARTVOICE) - "Come on kids and grab my song, and just hang on," Phil Avalos urges during "Hang On," one of fourteen concise, crunchy nuggets of inviting, addictive pop covered grungey guitar that comprise Don't Shake Me Up. Anyone with a love for the musical junction where hooky power-pop merges with raw, honest indie-rock sound quality and the hyper thrust of punk should follow Avalos' lyrical advice. It seems that the main goal of Avalos and his backing band, The Quiet Lanes, is to make songs that are short but sweet enough to stick in your minds for a long time. Don't Shake Me Up is loaded with choruses that keep coming back like boomerangs. The fact is, even if you don't grab Avalos' tunes, they're likely to grab onto you, they're so relentlessly catchy. They're the kind of songs you find yourself spontaneously humming before you're even aware of it. This disc is liable to satisfy fans for early Green Day and Weezer as well as lesser known, but no less influential, bands like Superchunk, Guided By Voices and The Promise Ring. Sometimes the inspiration is mined from bands as far back as the Jam, but the reference points here come from the mid '90's, when the most exciting music emanated from the basements and garages in college towns. - Matt Barber

What can I say? I have a preference for dim yellow bulbs. And for the record, somehow between taking down & putting back up the bar lights, we managed to break one of the three. Duane took out another. Mission accomplished. Har har. See you next month at Porters!
