Bio
..New project, ..Domestic Recordings.., now has ..its own page.......Phil is a composer and sonic artist, based in Wellington, New Zealand. He studied composition at the University of Auckland, with John Elmsly and John Rimmer, and at Victoria University of Wellington, with John Young, Ross Harris, and Dugal McKinnon. He completed a PhD in Composition in 2008.....He has written works for, and in some cases collaborated closely with many of New Zealand's leading contemporary performers, including Stroma, 175 East, Robert Ibell, Bridget Douglas, and Richard Nunns. His works have been performed and broadcast in a variety of countries.....He works in both instrumental and acousmatic media. A significant strand in his instrumental composition (and the subject of his PhD thesis) is the transference of studio techniques to notated music for human performers.....He has performed in the electronic improvisation duo The Brown Marks (with Jonny Marks), and with the interdisciplinary performance collective Amalgam, although both those projects are currently in hibernation. He has also made music for a number of radio dramas.....Scores, and some recordings, are available from ..SOUNZ, the Centre for New Zealand Music..... .. -
