Phil's Interests
General
Most anything done outdoors is interesting. Like being in and around mountains, creeks, rocks, streams, forest of trees, meadows of flowers, … things that are larger than us, but part of us. The more vertical things are, the better I like them. Now as for list’s: A lot of paddling whitewater, creeking, and slalom racing - OC1 canoe style. A little climbing every now and then. Mostly top roping, but on the sharp-end is what it’s all about. Climbing or bouldering once a 3-day mid-week workout is now limited to occasional weekends only. A couple Backpacking trips a year is mandatory, with a bit of hiking thrown in between. Sometimes it’s hiking trips; sometimes they’re scouting trips. Still enjoy bouldering, and it ties in really good with (steep) creeking. Guitar practice is a must, only of the acoustic variety. Cooking and experimenting in the kitchen or with a campstove. Traveling to new places is always fun, especially ones without all the planning. Unexpected out-of-the-ways actively sought, in favor of the trendy. Natural world, instead of the man made.
As time permits there’s boat/canoe building, making helmets, college football, eating, and did I say cooking. Might as well include Women, these day’s it can’t be taken for granted. While not ‘ever-never-ever’ considering a person ‘Produce’, the all natural, fully-grown, organic, without artificial fragrances or color added, pesticide free variety is preferred. My ideal match would be someone who could spend a night alone in the woods and enjoy it. Other interest include Music (see below), German Bier, Wheat Beer, Ales, Porters, Stouts, Eating, Ethnic Foods from Everywhere, Rain, Snow, Wind, Thunderstorms, Lightning, Otters, Marmots - both clothes and critters, Sally Field, Coffee, Nature, Mountains, Off-Season Seashores/Beaches, Gulf Coast is hard to beat, Dancing with a partner,… Singing when alone (really should not say), yes I’m the guy in the car. Life….

When you scratch a record to make a song (RAP), is it still called making music?
Movies
Have nearly swore off the impulse, so much wasted time... once upon a time had seem most everything in the video store - well you have to draw the line somewhere ...
Wizard of Oz, Lawrence of Arabia, Annie Hall, Apocalypse Now, Jungle Book, The African Queen (silly whitewater scenes)...(the non-colorized black-white), Lady & the Tramp, The Seven Samurai, King Kong (original), ET, Shawshank Redemption, Driving Miss Daisy, Lord of Rings (all), BraveHeart, Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid, Casino Royale (both), Young Frankenstein (Franken-steen), M. ButterFly, The Last Waltz .....
Most anything with Charlie Chaplin, Harrison Ford, Morgan Freeman, Robert Redford, or Clint Eastwood ... personally avoid Quentin Tarantino (although surely capable of rising above the mundane, blood, gore, and mediocrity) ... Anyone else tired of movies that's saved good ideas for the sequel? Trilogy's AOK!!! Parts one, two, and three require really-really-good word of mouth
Television
Nova, Bill Moyers, Frontline, most anything on PBS. Democracy Now. ER - still good after all the years and cast changes. Discovery/Science, History, Independent Film, Food Network channels. Is it Reality or Lowest-Common-Denominator TV, what's the average IQ of the viewer? The Daily Show with Jon Stewart
Books
Too busy for novels... should get back in the habit. Mostly magazines, instructional-how-to, the newspaper, a cookbook every now and then, and the Bible. Just finished "Ancient Tree's", currently in the middle of "Asimov's Guide to the Bible", and starting "the Science Before Science" by Anthony Rizzi.
Heroes
, Newton, Martin Luther, Amy Goodman, Y'hoshua, and Arius
"IN TIMES OF UNIVERSAL DECEIT, TELLING THE TRUTH WILL BE A REVOLUTIONARY ACT." -
George Orwell
...as with everything in life, it's either a state of growing or a state of dying ...else it doesn't exist at all
Single, never married, and not really looking for the next in a long line.
Who I'd like to meet:
Honest people of all types...
The guy who first lied about weapons of mass destruction.
How about the salesman that sold paperless electronic voting. Let's see... there's those programmers who counted the votes. And then there's Henry Kissinger, I would take along a subpoena or two.
