Up in that Pantheon inhabited by the biggest selling recording artistes of
all time in Ireland, rubbing shoulders with Bono and the Boys, you might be
surprised to bump into Phil Coulter. You shouldn't be!
It's now twenty years since the phenomenon of Tranquility first seduced the
country with its easy melodic charm, before going on to make believers
around the world. With record sales now counted in millions, as well as a
Grammy nomination, appearances in the White House and sold out
international tours, it¹s been quite a ride.
Not that Phil Coulter had been a stranger to success in the music biz prior
to that. In the twenty years before Tranquility he had achieved world-wide
recognition as a hit songwriter, notching up number ones with a diverse list
of acts from Elvis Presley to Cliff Richard, from Sandie Shaw to the Bay
City Rollers. His production credits include Van Morrison, Sinead
O' Connor, Richard Harris and Billy Connolly while in Ireland his successes
have ranged from the Dubliners to Planxty, from Paddy Reilly to the Furey
Brothers.
He has performed with everyone from James Galway and the London Symphony
Orchestra to Nanci Griffith and The Blue Moon Orchestra, not to mention
Henry Mancini, Elmer Bernstein and Quincy Jones!
He has contributed at least four titles to the list of Great Irish Songs -
the anthems The Town I Loved So Well and Ireland's Call and the haunting
Scorn Not His Simplicity and Steal Away.
He continues to demonstrate his unerring ear for a great song on his latest
album TIMELESS TRANQUILITY. To celebrate the 20 year landmark he has
recorded beautifully lush orchestrations of some of the most popular
melodies and biggest hits of recent years, from traditional tunes like
Black Is The Colour to recently composed favorites like
Caledonia, The Voyage and The Red Rose Cafe. It's an irresistible
combination to mark 20 years of an unstoppable phenomenon.

I was fortunate enough to see Storm both nights in Toronto. Just when I thought they couldn't get any better - they did!! I was simply blown away by it all and was delighted and hear words to some of your music. I loved Shadow Dancer the best as Coulterguist has always made me smile. Thank you so much for everything!
CONGRATULATIONS PHIL! Sorry I couldn't attend Toronto but have lots of friends who did and they thought that STORM was just perfection. Loved all of your new songs and said you are a genius, which I know you are. Sorry I will miss you touring this fall but am very anxiously awaiting to see and hear you on the cruise in Jan. Have a good rest, you sure deserve it. Hugs, Jean
Hi Phil, It was so nice to see you again in Toronto! Storm was unbelievable! You really outdid yourself! A few of the new songs had me teary-eyed because they are so beautiful (like "Tender is the Night" and "This Was My Life") while a few others had me laughing because they are so cute (like "Look at Me" and "Doo Wacka Doo"). You really know how to pick songs that are perfect for each guy. And while we all love to think of George as the mature family man, I loved that he got to "let his hair down" (LOL) on "My Life With You" and "500 Miles". He was awesome! And it was so great to hear Neil singing. He was wonderful! "Hallelujah" was absolutely beautiful. It would be great to hear Brendan sing with the guys sometime too! Anyway, congratulations on another wonderful show! I'm looking forward to seeing you again on the cruise in January! :)
Storm was spectacular, one of your greatest accomplishments, Phil. My daughter and I saw it both nights. I can't wait to get the DVDs and CDs. I've got some of your new songs still running through my head (Outside Lookin' In) and hope you will release the words soon so I can get them into place.
I hope all is well. Can't wait to see what you have cooked up for the Celtic Thunder lads for Storm. Toronto is coming soon, so I hope you're ready to hit the road again. Take care.
You are brilliant! My entire family listens to your music. It's rare that a composer/artist comes along whose appeal can span generations as you have done. Congratulations on all of your successes -- especially Celtic Thunder. We wish you continued success and cannot wait to see you again in concert!
Thanks for the add. I am in awe of your talent. To write an amazing song like Steal Away and arrange it for the guys, then change the arrangemet to accomidate the changes in Damian's voice...it is like a new song that I fell in love with all over again! By the way, I was a HUGE Bay City Rollers Fan ! =D
Hi Phil, Hope you have some time off before the madness starts all over again with Celtic Thunder. I am still very excited about the Tranquility Cruise. Love the song and video Boulavougue, very beautiful. See you in January.
Hi Phil, am so looking forward to the Fall tour. I love your music and as it says, your music seduces me, it is so very calming. My biggest excitement is that I will be on your 2010 Tranquility Cruise. I cannot wait for that and hope to maybe meet you. Thank You for all you have given us.
Hello Mr. Coulter. It's a great pleasure for us to be added as your virtual friends. We all really enjoy listening to your music. All the best from Germany. WOOP & Friends
