Influences
Where do you start? One day it could be Jacques Brel another day Viv Stanshall. When I have a hurdy-gurdy in my hand it's Patrick Bouffard when I'm in a film mood it's Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger.
But seriously though, the influences are so numerous that it is easy to forget who influenced what, why and how.

TWILIGHT FOLK PRESENTS…. SHARRON KRAUS With support from Peter Delaney and C Joynes Live at Orange Street Music Club, Canterbury Weds October the 21st 8.00pm £5 in advance/£6 on door
“Sharron Kraus is a dark-folk gem. Listening to her high, clear voice cut through melodies woven from acoustic guitar, banjo and hurdy-gurdy, you may struggle to remember which late-'60s traditionalists beat her to the material. Here's one folklore expert whose originals feel both authentic and alive….Exquisite second album by this wonderful singer. She conjures up visions of Karen Dalton, Shirley Collins, Judy Dyble and even early Joni. Live she was fantastic too. ..this moves from traditional folk (in a Shirley Collins, Anne Briggs style) to her own songs and enchants all the way. An immaculate album from a major new singer.”
Peter Delaney lives in Limerick, Ireland. He comes from a folk music background and plays his own unique style, drawing on early Hawaiian folk songs and Alan Lomax field recordings as well as more contemporary musicians such as Joanna Newsom and Josephine Foster. Peter released his debut EP/Mini Album "Duck Egg Blue" in April 2007 to much acclaim.
Peter has played throughout the UK, Ireland and Norway and has shared the bill with A Hawk and a Hacksaw, Alasdair Roberts, Jozef van Wissem, Juana Molina and The Swell Season. www.myspace.com/peterdelaney

Thanks, September can't come soon enough. I'm having Olympic Musical Instrument build one for me. I'm starting out with a basic basic model, no embellishments, etc. If I manage to learn it well enough to make me happy (people not running away screaming when I play) I plan to get a nicer, more embellished an certainly more expensive instrument. The one that I am going to be getting delivered to me at OTW in September is one of Olympic Musical Instrument's Chinook hg's.

Echoing the words of medieval poets and philosophers, ever faithful to the virtuous and perfect love of the Fidèles d’Amour... Keeping alive the grand tradition...Sing to us as we sing to you ! May this enchant and delight you !
We sing songs of the middle age in contemporary French language with authentic medieval melodies or melodies composed in the medieval idiom in order to deliver the listener the richness, strength and a vivid simplicity of the time.Audiences will discover with joy medieval thought and imagery. We are inspired ourselves by the diversity, the immense richness bequeathed to us by medieval society.... A heritage that was drawn in ink on parchment, carved in stone, sculpted in the wood, smelted in glass and woven in linen. We follow in the footsteps of the troubadours, Fidèles d’Amour, Ghazals singer, we sing the fin’Amor, the « perfect love », the « love from afar », pilgrimages, mystical intoxication and the wine, the tavern and the harmony around the table, the « Vouivre » (name of our dragon) and our rugged country, rumours, the Holy Grail quest and Eldorado quest, and Nature's revival in spring, the legend of Merlin and of the forest of Broceliande, the nostalgia for the lost Paradise, the childlike state of wonder, the ladies of olden times, witches, oriental evocations, a tribute to those persecuted by the inquisition, the mirrored world...Our repertoire refers to troubadours, trouveres, clerc Goliard, beguine, soufi, religious masters, … historical events, fables, and legends from the o
I know - it really is a small world! Glad to hear you're also a Barry fan - my own personal favourites are the score to "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" and "The Beyondness Of Things". Thanks for the friendship!
