Phil Jones is a proud and willing casualty of his older sister's record collection. Growing up in the eighties in a small, rusty Illinois steel town - just across the Mississippi from St. Louis - Phil found poetry and music in his early teens and eagerly embarked upon 'the road less traveled' - averting a likely tale of factory-life and work boots.
Even in his first band, Ninekiller, Phil was quickly recognized as a noteworthy talent, winning respect and accolades from press and peers, as well as acknowledgment from local radio stations. His second band, Summerhouse, succeeded as well in helping to define Phil as a formidable singer and musician, allowing him to play and record with some of the most talented local artists of the day, and offered - through many gigs and relentless rehearsals - what he now refers to as "an invaluable proving ground."
Today, as a solo artist, Phil Jones has truly come of age. Having been dubbed 'heavy-mellow' by fans and friends, his infectious song style is now a more refined, polished art form; a stand-out sound - and having taken the stage at many prestigious venues, such as The Mercury Lounge and the late CBGB's in New York, and Schuba's in Chicago, Phil has earned his keep as a riveting live presence and performer.
Phil's upcoming debut album, The Art of War, (Spectra), truly brings this evolution to light. A dynamic hybrid of styles and influence, and with a timeless and consistent lyrical depth, this album blurs the lines between genres and confidently redefines the borders. Featuring several world-class players, such as Kenny Aronoff, Pete Thomas, Davey Faragher, Lenny Castro and Neil Larsen, The Art of War is a relentless 9 song assault of hook-laden, thought provoking melodic rock, and is sure to mark the arrival of an up and coming star.
