   About Phill Fest

Phill Fest Music will be a web site devoted to the music of Phil Fest and Glen Reifsteck Productions. A new CD titled Smooth Edges is soon to be released featuring Ron Reinhardt ..boards is due out in August 2008. Download all 13 Songs At www.phillfestmusic.com

Their are 11 original smooth jazz songs composed by Phill Fest and Glen Reifsteck. One of the 2 unique cover cuts "The Wall" by Pink Floyd is arranged in a funky smooth jazz arrangement with Phill playing a nylon string guitar against a growling B3 Organ played by Ron Reinhardt with a heavy rocky drum and bass - very different - Check It out. Phill Fest has shared the stage with Craig Chaquico, Eric Marienthal, Slim Man, Ken Navarro and opened up for Tuck and Patti, Towe of Power, Boca Livre. As a member of Deeforce, he has teamed up with high profile pop/rock acts such as Stone Temple Pilots, Dixie Dregs, Neville Brothers and Marilyn Manson.

We were so pleased to have Ron Reinhardt play keyboards, and synth on some of tracks. Ron Reinhardt has extensive credits in providing lush and funky keyboard foundation for; Kim Waters, Steve Oliver, Ricky Lawson, Richard Elliot, Rick Braun, David Sanborn & Marcus Miller, Peter White, Oleta Adams, Brenda Russell, Jeff Golub, Warren Hill, Craig Chaquico, Kirk Whalum, Gerald Albright, Jonathan Butler, Steve Cole, Marc Antoine, Everett Harp, Paul Jackson Jr., Bobby Lyle, Brian Culbertson, and Paul Brown.

Phill Fest's background and training give his musicality a unique twist uncommon for his generation. Phill was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota and currently resides in Florida. Phill grew up in a musical family. His father is a recording artist and his mother a composer and music instructor. Phill was exposed to Brazilian and American Jazz right from the start. "I remember hangin' with Sergio Mendez backstage many times as a kid." His father, Manfredo Fest, was the Keyboardist and Music Director for Bossa Rio, the opening act for Brasil '66 for three years.

Phill started guitar at age 16. Having already studied clarinet and violin, the 'six string' came easy. Phill studied at Music Tech of Minneapolis in '89. "My training is a combination of school and self-taught techniques." At the 1996 Bay Area Music Awards (B.A.M.A.) Phill won "Best Jazz Artist". Summer of '96 brought Phill to Germany and Denmark as a member of the Hendrick Muerkens Samba Jazz Quintet. In February of '97 Phill toured England and Spain with Maria Creuza (famous Brazilian Singer).

Phill performed for five years with Deeforce, an all original eclectic rock-n-roll band that won best original band of Florida '93-'94 at the Florida Jammy Awards. During this period, the band also moonlighted as The Starliters as in 'Joey Dee and The Starliters', known for the hit singles Peppermint Twist and Shout. "I've played with the who's-who of oldies; Bo Didley, Spencer Davis, Coasters, Drifters, to name a few. I will never forget my years with Joey Dee." Phill has recorded four compact discs with his father Manfredo Fest for Concord Jazz. Each of these recordings feature a composition by Phill. Since '01, Phill has resided in South Florida performing everywhere including: the Hard Rock Casino, Van Dykes(S.Beach), O'harra's, Brazilian Ct., and countless other venues and private affairs. With the release of 'Smooth Edges' -Oct.'08, The future looks bright for this multi faceted talent.

It's a great honor to have you visiting our Festival and honoring your father. We look forward to meeting you in person. There are many in the Twin Cities jazz community who learned a great deal from the great Manfredo Fest!

Hey Phil & friends thereof;
Check the original tune "Journey To Freedom" On My Jukebox. It is a Cuban Songo/Funk-Fusion Thang. This is in pre-production with all computer instruments programmed by me with my live guitar track. More details are in the blog. There will be a full version forthcoming with some real humans playing the instruments. Just a preview/note-sketch for now.

Enjoy

Hey Phill,
Great to see you have a site on myspace. Welcome back to high school! Glen sent me your new CD and it sounds wonderful! Thought you guys did a fantastic job. Your playing is full of melodic invention.

Stay in touch and let me know how things are going. I know Glen is working on some new material for a second album. Keep up the great work!

Hope all things, musical or otherwise, are going well for you and you're having fun! Talk soon.

Cheers!
Dave
