Bio
For bookings and info contact philliphenrybookings@hotmail.com.. .. Music available to order / download from http://philliphenry.bandcamp.com/.. .. Phillip Henry is a figurehead for the next generation of English slide guitarists. His virtuoso playing encompasses 360 degrees of influence. He has studied the Delta blues bottleneck for many years and has developed a touch reminiscent of Ry Cooder... .. .. “I like your style boy”: Louisiana Red.. .. .. Phillip has also developed an astounding dobro technique and is fast becoming recognised as one of the finest players England has produced. His repertoire includes arrangements of traditional melodies of the British Isles and further a-field, songs, and innovative compositions. His compositions and arrangements have been featured a number of times on BBC Radio Three’s Late Junction programme including a live performance at Maida Vale studios for the Late Junction ten year anniversary special... .. .. In more recent years he has become fascinated with the Indian classical slide guitar tradition and in particular the playing of Pandit Debashish Bhattacharya, a true virtuoso of both Indian classical music and slide guitar. Phillip has spent a number of months studying under the great master in Calcutta and has been described by him as “a technically developed slide guitarist”. While continuing his study of Indian classical music Phillip has brought the influence of his studies in Calcutta to bear on his unique compositions and arrangements, and his solo show features performances on the Chatturangui, the 22 string Indian slide guitar invented by Pandit Debashish... .. .. Then there is Phillip’s astounding harmonica technique, inspired by the playing of Sonny Terry. Phillip has developed a mesmerizing and crowd pleasing solo harmonica style. His style has evolved to incorporate vocals and beatbox and is now well known on the festival circuit for single handedly getting large crowds on their feet and jumping... .. .. Phillip is also the band leader of the hotly tipped up and coming band The Roots Union, also well known on the festival circuit and fresh from recording in Nashville. In the band Phillip plays dobro, lap steel and harmonica... .. .. ...... -
