Philadelphia Young Playwrights's Interests
|
| General | This year Young Playwrights received over 600 submissions to our Playwriting Festival from students across the region! Visit www.phillyyoungplaywrights.org to see out list of winners!
This year's Playwriting Festival Deadline is May 15, 2009. Students from around the region are invited to submit their plays to Philadelphia Young Playwrights' Annual Playwriting Festival. Up to 1,000 students submit their scripts each year.
Members of Young Playwrights' Literary Committee read each script and provide students with individualized written feedback. First, second and third place distinctions are awarded at the elementary, middle and high school levels.
To learn more about the Annual Playwriting Festival visit www.phillyyoungplaywrights.org/submit.php | | Music | Plays are meant to be shared with audiences. Young Playwrights facilitates sharing of students' plays with peers through in school Mini-Festivals, and by bringing them to audiences of the general public in staged readings, workshops and professional productions on our Play Development Series.
Student writers are at the center of our public presentations, participating in casting, rehearsals, marketing, press relations and talk-backs with audiences. | | Movies | This year's Young Voices High School Monologue Festival was a success! We received over 330 submissions this year- 6 times more than last year! Over 300 high school students came to The Playground at the Adrienne to watch performances of the Young Voices High School Monologue Festival. The production was a success, showcasing the works of 17 students, whose monologues were first place winners in the Festival. Each day, winning students participated in post-show talkbacks with the audience and reflected on their experience in the Festival. When asked
about the best part of her experience, one student said, "I loved this experience. If you are a writer, this is the experience you need to explore. Even if you aren’t a writer this experience will help you and others. No matter what you write it will speak to someone. Never be afraid
to express yourself through your words or through your pen."

thank you very very very much.
Thanks for the add, PYP--and for helping emerging voices be heard.
Hey, I just wanted to say that I love love love PYP for all that they've done for me over the past 3 years of being involved with them. I also want to say that i love love love the staff members of PYP and all the incredible actors, dramaturgs and just general people that I've met through them, I've come to think of you all as members of my family and wouldn't trade all of our experiences for the world. I'm truly blessed to have met such wonderful people.
yours truly,
Marquis
Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Wendy Wasserstein spins a comic and moving tale about the pitfalls that await female political appointees. On the eve of Dr. Lyssa Dent Hughes' nomination as Surgeon General, a witty and dangerous cast of characters stir the calm waters of her Georgetown home. And when sexy "post-feminist" Quincy Quince enters the picture, even Lyssa's husband Walter can't be trusted.
Starring: Kevin Bergen, Keith Conallen, Jennie Eisenhower, Kaci Fannin, Carl Granieri, Tom McCarthy, Kathryn Peterson, Tobias Segal,
Maureen Torsney Weir, William Zielinsky
