フィリップ・ラボンテ's Blog

Hi, I'm Phil and I'm a gun owner.

I know it seems I've been of a one track mind lately but I think that's due to the very strict laws and long and arduous process to legally own and carry a gun in The Commonwealth of Massachusetts. I don't ever want to break the law cause I don't want to give the state a reason to take away my license. So I jump through the hoops to make them happy. Pain in the ass.

Anyway, I thought this would give all the people who like to talk shit a little something to piss n moan about and it'll give all the ppl who think like I do a lil more food for thought. Hopefully someone who has no opinion on gun ownership will read this and think "well I don't want one, but I like the idea of people being able to own a gun if they choose".

I'm getting a little off track here but this is important, that's what we want. No one is telling you you have to own a gun, or know anything more about them than they are loud and you don't stand in front of one. But I believe it is NOT my place to tell someone how to live their life. I am pro choice, pro gay rights, pro civil liberties, and pro gun rights. I am anti patriot act, anti imperialism, anti federal intrusion. To be fair most of the people who were so fearful of new gun laws when our President was elected have been proven wrong. And the reason is cause there are SO MANY OF US, people who care enough to vote for our rights. With this anti incumbent tone in the US, the progressive agenda that the democratic party has and is looking to make lasting legislation on doesn't have the sweeping support some expected, so gun laws are FAR from the top of the list cause there are only a hand full of States that would go for it. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is from Nevada, think he's gonna get re-elected if he's pushing for stronger gun laws? Or look at it this way, think he's gonna WIN more votes talking about gun control, or the economy? Gun control, or energy concerns (gulf oil vs desert sun?) Point is, it's not a big deal to MOST people. And unfortunately, the vast majority of people who do care about gun control most have lost loved ones to guns. They are angry, and rightly so, that they're loved one was the victim of a gun crime. So they look for a way to try to make sure no one ever feels their pain again. And that makes sense when you're responding with you emotions. Responding with the pain of a lost child, brother, father. I can totally understand why people would want gun control. But having said that, I ask you to consider these reasons for NOT taking away our second amendment right to keep and bear arms.

In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929 to 1953, about 20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
------------------------------

In 1911, Turkey established gun control. From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
------------------------------

Germany established gun control in 1938 and from 1939 to 1945, a total of 13 million Jews and others who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated.
------------------------------

China established gun control in 1935. From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents, unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated
------------------------------

Guatemala established gun control in 1964. From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
---- ------------- -------------

Uganda established gun control in 1970. From 1971 to 1979, 300,000 Christians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
------------------------------

Cambodia established gun control in 1956. From 1975 to 1977, one million educated people, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
-----------------------------

Defenseless people rounded up and exterminated in the 20th Century because of gun control: 56 million.
------------------------------

Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws adversely affect only the law-abiding citizens.

The next time someone talks in favor of gun control, please remind them of this history lesson.

During WWII the Japanese decided not to invade America because they knew most Americans were ARMED.

Switzerland issues every household a gun
Switzerlands government trains every adult they issue a rifle
Switzerland has the lowest gun related crime rate of any civilized country in the world

If you don't like guns that cool. Don't make me a criminal cause I do.

    Right on brother!
Most people don't realize just how unique and important our 2nd Amendment is. It really was a brilliant piece of law written by our founders. Above anything else it ensures that us Americans will always have the means available to defend ourselves if our government should ever become overbearing or tyrannical.

Gun control does nothing to lower crime, all the facts prove this from multiple countries including ours for the past 30 plus years now. It only hurts law abiding citizens like you suggest.

Hang tight Phil, luckily we still have a Supreme Court that is rooted in defending the Constitution as it was intended, first they shot down the D.C. gun ban and then the Chicago Gun ban. It won't be long before all the cities and states that have overbearing gun control laws will have to abide by the original law of the land.

I would also like to add that Switzerland has never been involved in a war in over 500 years because of the training of the citizens, the Nazi's didn't attack Switzerland because of this.

And correct, the only ones that are effected by gun control laws are the law-abiding citizens, because last time I checked, criminals don't care about the law.

While I understand how angry these families and communities are about guns and their passion to get rid of them, I ask them to reexamine who is doing this to their communities. It's not the law-abiding neighbors in their community, it's the gang-bangers and criminals who's weapons are illegal to begin with. You have to go through a very rigorous application process to even be considered for a Class III weapons permit by the ATF.

And finally, to quote Admiral Yamamoto, "If we were to attack the mainland United States, we would find a rifle pointed at us behind every blade of grass." That's longer than the actual quote, but the message is the same.

And by the way Phil, I'm sorry it's so hard to obtain a license or firearm in MA, that's why I live in Texas!!! lol

phil not to sound like a theorist of conspiracy, but they're probably going to try to enact these gun laws here in the u.s. so they can cap our bitch asses whenever they see fit, like 2012, agenda 21 doesn't include most of the population

Besides its not guns that kill people. Its the people who use guns for evil are the ones hunting their fellow humans. Humans hunt human with or without guns. Thats the truth.

If you look anywhere where there are stricter gun laws, violent crimes are always highest. Look at all these recent college shootings. If college students were legally able to carry guns, I would guarantee there would be less school shootings. These crazy douche bags doing the killing pick a place where they KNOW no one will have any way to defend themselves. Also, there are more killings from vehicle accidents than gun shootings. You scared to drive? Wanna make driving illegal? I could kill someone with a shoe lace, a pencil or pen, a chair, a baseball bat, a guitar string, or whatever device I see fit to kill someone. You going to want to outlaw all those things too? You might as well go live in a deserted cave, butt naked with no one miles around you... anything can kill, not just a gun. Its the people behind the gun that matter. A gun is just an effective tool for defense. It would be better to have one and not EVER have to use it, than to need it, and either not know how to use it, or not have one to use. You could save someones life, and possibly your own. One good thing about being a human being, we can learn to use one safely and responsibly.

Politicians in Massachusetts have cited the State's tough gun control laws as the reason for its low murder rates. However, the adjacent states of Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont have some of the least stringent gun control laws in the US, yet the first two have lower murder rates than Massachusetts and the murder rates in Vermont are comparable to those in Massachusetts. Murder rates in Boston increased 50% in 2004 over the previous year, while murder rates in Los Angeles, Miami, Washington and many other major cites saw murder rates decline.
