Bio
A Nobody from Nowhere, who's never done nothin' noteworthy, Phil was raised by wolves in the mahogany forested mountains of Indonesia. Trophy hunters shot his mother when he was approximately twelve years old, and our hero was shipped in a cage to a secret lab at Stanford university where behavioral scientists coaxed him with jelly beans to learn to walk upright, speak and otherwise emulate civilized behavior. Though their efforts were largely successful, Phil still retains a ferocious appetite for field mice and salamanders and an uncanny agility and swiftness on all fours. Otherwise he might pass for one of us but for his peculiar gait and the green fire in his eyes. -
Members
I generally perform solo but am not averse to sitting in with one or more guests. On my cd, "Handful o' Dirt," I am joined by Dominic Suchyta, Seth Bernard, May Erlewine, Miko Fossum and Susan Fawcett. The six of us comprised a band called "Handful o' Dirt" which only played live one time. -
Influences
Everybody and everything I've ever heard. The big ones are Hank, Elvis, Dylan, Joni, George John Paul and Ringo, Loretta, George, Johnnie, Leonard, Sister Mary Cyril, The Okanogan Orchestra and Chorus, Roy Orbison, Seth, May, Susan, Luke, Josh, Dominic, Sari, Darlene, Kirby, Jim, Tracy, Daniel, Jen, Drew, Andrea, Micah, Dale, Mo, Ron, Tuffy and most important of all: Barry Manilow. -
Sounds Like
Like watching the sunset on Sturgeon Bay with someone you love while being annoyed by strange little insects that die as soon as you touch them, but won't leave you alone just the same. Like a warm sunny day when there are storms blowing in and yer standing in the sun feeling a cold breeze and watching a huge black cloud galloping across the sky. Like meeting someone for the first and last time in the midst of a frantic day and when yer eyes meet it feels like you've always known each other and understood completely and you acknowledge each other forever with just that one glance. Like coming home late, happy and high from a party full of bright entertaining people and finding a nasty note from yer ex-girlfriend who just stopped by to ruin yer day. Like listening to someone sing the prettiest, most romantic sounding country waltz and realizing the lyrics are about a relationship where power is so much more important than love.
