"Phoebe Legere is one of the most, inspired and talented creative-supernovas on the planet...One of those rare luminous souls... beautiful, wickedly funny, anointed with wisdom, and her music possesses Native American mystical and healing qualities. like Billie Holiday or Jimi Hendrix or Miles Davis or Sun Ra..." Dimitri Monroe, Hits Magazine
My work reflects my own identity as both Penobscot Indian and contemporary composer. As a Native American, I believe that nature is God and that I have a sacred duty to protect and honor her. But I am also fascinated with how recent scientific discoveries, particularly in biology and physics, have expanded our understanding of the world. I seek to reconcile these views through my music,by combining scientific hypothesis with spiritual and aesthetic intuition.
My work embodies these goals by incorporating experimental sounds and techniques; electronics and acoustic sounds; traditional Native American singing and percussion; and natural sounds taken from field recordings – including whales, dolphins, ospreys, ravens, meadow larks, and other good singers of nature.
Phoebe Songbundle's mission is to teach children the importance of wildlife, forests, rivers, deserts and mountains. Through the songs and stories of her ancestors, Songbundle shares the Native sense of the interconnectedness of all things.
