About me:
our upcoming event!

The Phoenix Fridas

We play. We have pain and passion. We love to paint and we live in Phoenix. We are...The Phoenix Fridas - rising up from triple digit temperatures (literally) for the sake of art and craft! We are a womens artist collective from Phoenix, Arizona. We come from different backgrounds, cultures, art genres, personalities and age but we all have one thing in common: We *heart* Frida Kahlo.
Not only as an artist, a feminist, and a revolutionary - but mainly for being a strong, passionate independent WOMAN.

The Phoenix Fridas are:

Kathy Cano-Murillo, Crafty Frida
I'm a binge crafter. I love art so much I would eat paint if I thought it tasted good. Or I'd use it as toothpaste or bubble bath. I can't get enough glitter. Luckily, I think the heavens took mercy on me and allowed me to make a living by doing crafts. I write a national weekly craft column, do tv demos, author craft books and sell my art at my store with my hubby. We have two kids and three yappy chihuahuas. I'm happy.

Carmen de Novais, Beader Frida
Carmen, born in Brazil, has lived in Arizona for most of her life. She leads the Brazilian band Zum Zum Zum where she sings and plays guitar, charango, accordion and the vibraphone. Her philosophy is based on the need to express and explore our indigenous roots through music, theater, ritual and art, in order to foster multicultural understanding and appreciation, while passing on valuable oral and cultural traditions to future generations. She is a jewelry designer and started beading as a little girl. Beading is a form of meditation, and the jewelry a source of empowerment. Each piece she makes is a prayer for peace, love, harmony, health, beauty, wisdom and wealth both on a personal and global way. Carmen is a featured guest on the NEW TV Show...Find www.carmencreations.com Uncommon Threads.

Leticia Amezaga, Rockera Frida
Leticia. That's me. Hardworking office stiff by day, be-dazzler by night. I haven't really found an art niche and love to put my sticky little fingers on any arts or crafts project. Although I do always end up going back to rhinestoning things or "be-dazzling up" accessories. Right now I am working on designing some kids tees with a Latino Urban vibe and hope to shop it out to different shops here and across the country. I also run a Phx based .. support group for Latina single mothers. We gab, meet up for play dates, and vent. It rocks. I used to front a rock en espanol band, Dios Elefante. Check out my cool line of clothing...

***********************

Anita Mabante Leach, Sewer Frida
Anita is a chicana mamita who spins gold from her sewing machine, crochet hook and knitting needles. She never met a pattern she didn't like. When she isn't designing handbags, clothing and Mexican cowgirl pillows, she is a journalist for Latino Perspectives magazine, reporting on issues and people who make headlines in the Phoenix area.

Anita is one of the first featured guest on the NEW TV Show... Uncommon Treads.
which airs this month, July 21st on the DIY Network! Her Pinata Pillow is already up on their website!

**********************

Lucia Madrid, Tia Frida
Lucia is a notable figure in the Latino community here in Phoenix. However, after years of community service and broadcasting, she had a personal calling to give up her day job and take on the life of a painter. Inspired by her Mexican culture, she currently has shows all across the valley. Lucia is also now a realtor.

******************

Emily Costello, Smoking Frida
I'm irresistibly attracted to painting images that amuse and intrigue me. I find much of my inspiration from my Mexican heritage and it's cultural icons and images. I am in love with vivid mexicolors, milagros, Dia de Los Muertos, pinatas, saints and sinners, the curious and bizarre, the circus, and art. My favorite artist and inspiration is my son. Viva la Vida!
Emily Costello's MySpace Page!

Tracy Dove, Dead Frida
I live in the magical, desert city of Phoenix, Arizona. My sun, moon and mercury are all in the sign of Aries with Taurus rising. I grew up under the influence of the 60's and 70's. I've always been creatively driven, a free thinker, independent, earthy, hippie, bohemian type of girl. I have been drawing and coloring from a very early age. It evolved into a beautiful art journey for me. Currently, I paint with acrylics mostly on canvas. My art is definitely an expression of my heart, mind and spirit. Pretty much everything I feel or think or love will get painted on something somewhere. My canvasses are covered with a diverse array of subjects ranging from whimsical houses, painted hippie buses and festival scenes to mermaids, fanciful animals, meditating women and messages of the heart and soul. I am married, we have a grown daughter who is amazing. I have a dog named Chloe and 5 cats. We are living happily ever after.

Hi All,

It's been a while since I've said 'hello'.  Hope everything is going well for you.  I'm just waiting for the vigero to hit the mixmaster when my latest article appears in the November issue of the 'Paraplegia News'.  If Ron Kovic ('Born on the Fourth of July') is unaware of who I am, he'll surely know after that.  Whether it 'trickles' up to Oliver Stone--or down, not sure how this stuff flows--I'll be anxiously awaiting feedback.

In any event, the truth is a powerful allie.

Hi - Hope you're having a good day!  I have another helpful makeup tip for you:

PROPER LIGHTING FOR APPLYING YOUR MAKEUP...

How is the lighting where you apply your makeup? Are you applying your makeup in a bathroom or bedroom with one bright light above your head? Is that one overhead light casting some pretty bad shadows on your facial features, making it difficult for you to judge how much color to apply to your eyes, lips and cheeks...to read more, click here:

George was my ultimate favorite (his bobble-head still graces my cupboard display).
Although I used to mimic John, when they flashed his marital status across the TV screen
during the Beatles' 1st Ed Sullivan appearance, I immediately transferred my crush to George.
He was quiet & cool, and I found his crooked smile most beguiling!

Who has been your favorite?
