Phoenix Reign, the dynamic and fiercely independent New York Cirty-based power metal act, has been setting the tone with their debut album "Destination Unknown," released in 2007 and haven't looked back since.
Formed by guitarist Billy Chrissochos and bassist Chris Pollatos, and joined shortly thereafter by drummer Wayne Noon and guitarist Kostas Psarros, Phoenix Reign became a complete unit with the addition of lead singer Theresa Gaffney in 2002. After producing several demos, interest triggered the band to embark on self-producing their first full-length album. It was quickly received by international outlets as a "very impressive power metal debut...featuring majesic vocals by Theresa Gaffney," (The End Record's Omega Mailorder), and the band as "easily one of the best power metal bands I've heard in some time, "(Unrestrained Magazine).
Also reviewed in August 2008's Mtal Maniacs, they are described as "Talented but no overly technical, and accessible to fans of old and new power metal as well as modern thrash...Phoenix Reign's crystal production, catchy choruses and empowering drive could catch on if picked up by the right label."
Another landmark event for Phoenix Reign was being prominently featured in Greece's premier History magazine "War and History" (Polemos and Historia), which declared, "Phoenix Reign successfully 'married' rock with the fall of the Constantinople". Responding to the internation popularity of their twelve minute opus dedicated to that fateful Black Tuesday in 1453, the band teamed up with Greek "living history" reenactment specialists Byzantine Crown Productions, to produce a music video/short film that will blow every expectation of what a true "independent" heavy metal band can do.
The future is bright for the band, and using their firm rooting in metal, mixed with hard rock vocal melodies and traditional Greek musical flavoring, these five New Yorkers will continue to make their way to the top of the international metal scene.
