Alongside the legendary Prince Paul (De La Soul, Handsome Boy Modeling School), Phofo was responsible for producing MC Paul Barman's critically acclaimed debut LP, which was given 4 stars by Rolling Stone. Phofo has enjoyed the pleasure of producing, remixing and collaborating with ubiquitous indie pop and underground hip-hop stars like MF Doom (Gorillaz, Dangerdoom), Mr. Dead (Handsome Boy Modeling School), Jean Grae, I am the World Trade Center, My Favorite, The Brittle Stars and many others. His music has appeared in several ad campaigns, including those of Red Bull, Kyocera, Marc Ecko, Budweiser, and And-One.
He enjoys Bengal Spice tea, the bossa nova, massages, holgagraphy, and collects super 8 cameras, the art of Tim Biskup, tiki mugs, and mad props. In addition to music production, Phofo is a trial lawyer and copyright scholar specializing in derivative use issues like sampling. He was a contributing writer to Dave Eggars/McSweeney's "Created in Darkness by Troubled Americans" (Knopf/Random House), a music consultant to PRI's "This American Life", and is the editor of samplinglaw.com.
He recently relocated from NY to LA and is now working as the music director for the animated feature film, Los Campeones, he is also the composer for the new cartoon series, Sushi Pack (Saturday mornings on CBS), recording his own full-length album, writing a book about the cultural and legal history of sampling, and spinning loungecore, bossa and go-go hits traversing the globe.
