The new phog masheeen CD Survey of Brutality is out now! It is mad-great and you need one! You can buy it at www.http://cdbaby.com/cd/phogmasheeen or Itunes! A quick tour of the Survey of Brutality CD reveals that it is a mix of pulse driven clipping, music concrete’ style ambience and public service announcements. By utilizing a trumpet with a particular focus on the incidental sounds that the instrument produces, the resonating springs, clattering loose valve caps and the clunking of valves have become part of the sonic pallet. As stated by listeners, “by using these extended techniques, phog masheeen offers a mechanical spin to the West Coast Free Noise Movement.” The public service announcement is woefully overlooked as a social engineering opportunity on most CDs. Survey of Brutality corrects that over-sight. Survey of Brutality’s harsh urban dreamscapes offer an ambient interlude from time to time, so the listener can “slow down and smell the diesel.”
