About Phoney Tapes

Phoney Tapes is in the process of restructuring since we opened up our own recordstore in june: DRAKE RECORDS
Information about a new release schedule might follow somewhat within the next weeks.

PHONEY TAPES started out as as a mixtape-label extravaganza that also released albums by a few well-chosen artists. Now it's more and more the other way round...

After doing the leftwing punk-label 'red flag' DJ Phoney started 'Phoney Tapes' around the millenium at first to release his own mixtapes.
Soon releases of others followed (by DJ's like Bass T and Tiva).

From the beginning on Phoney Tapes' label-philosophy was not restricted to musical styles but quality and originality. We've put out a Country-mix, we did a Dub-Tape, we've released a Roots-Reggae mixtape, we've had a lounge electronic one, a high quality Hiphop-mix, one with Beat/Psych/Garage-stuff, and more. One-dimensional musical thinking isn't our cup of tea.

In 2006 we re-released San Francisco's EmCee Lynx"The UnAmerican LP" on tape for germany. The same year saw a tape- and 7''-release by our noise fella and electro-punk Ernest Drake. These three were obviously no mixtapes. And there will be more album-releases in the near future.

In february 2007 PT did release a great mixtape by cologne's legendary DJ Fangkiebassbeton ("A real Motherfunker").

New releases by Ernest Drake, Mr. Kato, DJ Phoney with International Criminal and Three And A Quarter are in progress for this year and 2008 with distribution through Groove Attack.

DJ Fangkiebassbeton's latest mix-tape and -CD "A Real Motherfunker" can be ordered via 'send message' on this page (CD 7,- € / Tape 5,- €).
The mix includes NuBreaks and Oldschool- as well as Retro-Funk plus some other funky sampleslayers stuff. Artists featured include: Le Scratch Funk, The Broken Keys, Queen Eve & The Kings, Alex Band, Diesler, Cee-Lo Green (of Gnarls Barkley) and much more...
