About me:

News of a Phosphene live show coming up at Stirling's Le Weekend Festival on Sunday 31st May... More details here!
I live in Glasgow, Scotland, where I make music under the name Phosphene, on my own and sometimes with friends. There've been 3 albums so far and recent releases include a single which has guest appearances from Bridget St. John, Isobel Campbell & Bill Wells on one side and a collaboration with Nalle on the other, from Pickled Egg Records and an e.p. on the estimable Rusted Rail label of Galway. Previous collaborators have included John McKeown (1990s/Yummy Fur) and saxophonists Lol Coxhill & Raymond MacDonald. There is a myspace music page for Phosphene and another for Electroscope, a duo formed in 1996 by my friend Gayle and I... see links below. I've made all sorts of music radio programmes for the BBC and, on a station called Radio Six International, I have a weekly show called the Soundwave. This goes out from Glasgow at www.radiosix.com, on Sky/Astra channel 0195 and on FM stations in Slovakia and New Zealand. Apart from this, I've written a book about the early days of Syd Barrett & Pink Floyd and their wonderful Piper at the Gates of Dawn album. You can find out more on all of this at: http://www.phosphene.debrett.net Phosphene live shows are rare, but the one with Nalle & Colleen at the Britannia Panopticon music Hall in Glasgow on 20th June 2007 was a lot of fun and a great success. There are a couple of photos here and more at the Phosphene website. This is the lovely poster Iker Spozio designed for the event. In late 2006 I released a long overlooked album by the amazing Delia Derbyshire. Two vinyl editions have come and gone, but a cd edition is now available from the Melodybar distro: www.apexonline.com/melodybar and an lp version of another gem from the KPM library catalogue by Ron Geesin is now pressed and ready for your turntable! Please read the blog notes on the project for more details. There's also an interview which has recently gone up at: http://www.foxydigitalis.com/foxyd/feature_detail.php?id=194 if you fancy a look! .. I edited my profile with Thomas' Myspace Editor V4.4

    New Fifty Foot Hose CD!

    http://anthologyrecordings.com/release.asp?album=FOgIMVzZlkK

Recorded: live on March 16, 2003 at the Beta Lounge in San Francisco

In 1967, San Francisco’s Fifty Foot Hose were certainly one of the innovators of a sound that took Psychedelia to new heights and was captured on the band’s one record, Cauldron. They are a totally unique hybrid—on one hand pulsating bay area acid rock, on the other, fractured electronic freakery, becoming one whole cohesive being. The sci-fi-ish video game-like artwork hinted at the sounds within, as did the Limelight label’s pedigree for truly progressive sounds. Band leader, Cork Marcheschi, used homemade electronic devices to create crude and experimental soundscapes and instrumental compositions that were sprinkled throughout the album.

Often starting shows with a swelling rumble that exploded into the first song, they soon developed a rabid following on the SF scene, though there was the occasional totally wrong gig, like when a very-pregnant Nancy had to perform at a Catholic Girls’ school! Still, the group wowed the crowds, performing with greats like Chuck Berry and Fairport Convention.

hi john, a quick catch up. saw the trembling bells at the barbican string band event. excellent night and the guys impressed the oldies around us. saw marianne faithfull the following night at the festival hall and whilst it was an event the rock sound didn't work and she attempted sing along 'as tears go by' not good.
loving the releases on midwich records; owl service etc. also the monks 'black monk time' is a revelation. listening repeatedly to robert quines velvets recordings in the car. jazz sensibility and reeds appreciation of ornette comes through. the musical education never stops.
finally check dolly dolly in my top friends they have delia t-shirts and a very funky william burroughs one.
    peace jeremy
