About me:
The Physicians of Myddfai (pronounced "muth-vee") were legendary Welsh herbalists who compiled one of the most comprehensive herballs in European history. Subject of a famous myth (The Lady of the Lake), and one of the only existing Druidic based texts (the Druids had no written language), it quickly became one of the most widely used and famous herballs of ancient times.
In the early 13th century, Rhys Gryg ( warrior son of Welsh Prince Rhys ap Gruffydd) was Lord of Dynevor and Ystrad Towy. Like many other noble men, he had his own personal 'physician'. This medical attendant was known by the name of Rhiwallon. Rhiwallon was assisted in his work by his three sons; Cadwgan, Gruffydd and Einion. As a family they lived in the small village of Myddfai in Carmarthenshire. They were particularly skillful, their work was highly advanced for the era, and as a result of this combined with their loyalty, Rhys Gryg rewarded them with land and extra benefits. Their reputation and fame spread and legends soon formed around them mystifying their craft, and suggesting partial descent from a faery woman- The Lady of Llyn-y- Fan Fach.
The Physicians of Myddfai Herball Company focuses on the traditional plants and medicines of the Isles (Britain, Wales, Ireland, and Scotland). Each product label is written in the traditional language of the country it is inspired by, and %5 of proceeds will go to Conradh na Gaeilge Comhairle na Gàidhlig, Cussel an Tavas Kernuak, and Bwrdd yr Iaith Gymraeg- all are organizations dedicated to the preservation of Celtic languages.
All of our products are made as simply and as natural as possible. That means no preservatives or harsh chemicals, no cutting corners, and use of only organic herbs and butters. Physicians of Myddfai Herball Company is a small family operation, located in Los Angeles, CA. Because of this we are able to focus on our customers, individually, and pay careful attention to how our products are produced. When we can, we source our ingredients and packaging as locally as possible, often growing herbs ourselves, and always making our crafts by hand. Our packaging is always post consumer and minimal whenever possible. We try not to use much plastic, either, as it seems to be ending up in the Pacific Ocean.
Thank you for visiting with us!

"Most people are so busy knocking themselves out trying to do everything they think they should do, they never get around to do what they want to do."
