Bio
Pianogirl aka Am Y creates spontaneous piano music. Every playing is different, usually based around a theme or motif derived "in the moment". Recordings are usually done on the Yamaha Clavinova (CVP505), and each recording is unique - meaning that it can never be replicated because no score is used, and improvisations are all based on the mood and feel at that particular point in time. All songs are original unless otherwise stated. A Bachelor of Arts graduate from the National University of Singapore, Pianogirl spent some time doing her Masters in Education with the University of Southern Queensland, before discovering that her true calling in life was music. She joined Yamaha Music as an instructor cum performer for 5 years before leaving to set up her own studio - Piano-Girl Studio, Singapore. Today, Pianogirl teaches classical, pop, and jazz piano, and is an active performer cum demonstrator for acoustic and digital keyboard instruments, as well as a professional pianist for events, playing everything from lounge-style jazz piano to classical favourites to pop evergreens. -

Biography

Pianogirl never tires of listening to her jazz idol Bill Evans and remains highly inspired by his works.

As an Asian (Chinese) person, I've always identified strongly with the pentatonic scale. It's amazing how just 5 notes can yield such vast and amazing possibilities. This album showcases songs spontaneously composed, using a variety of instruments, based on the most well-known eastern scale.

This song was borne out of an afternoon of solo jamming in my studio @ Yamaha. Inspired by Bill Evans, my idol, this is a purely piano track - a snapshot of an inspired moment in time, complete with momentary hesitations and slip-ups.
....Idea 9....
An impromptu session of motif-exploration, with my laptop placed beneath my grand piano to record anything that happened to sound good. Of all the ideas, this was #9 and it stuck.
