About me:
HELLO! If you'd like to set up a PIANO LESSON, please e-mail us at PIANOWITHJESSANDFRIENDS@GMAIL.COM or call us at 917.558.0018. We believe that playing should be fun. In addition to music theory, song books, and technique, there are stickers, prizes, games and an annual recital. We teach in NYC and will come to your home. To learn more about us, please read our bios below. We look forward to meeting you! ************************************************************ HELLO, MY NAME IS JESSICA LESHNOWER. I am the founder of “Piano with Jess and Friends.” I have studied piano privately, at a summer music conservatory, and at New York University. My piano teaching ancestry dates back to Beethoven. I play seven instruments, have assisted on Broadway shows, and have coached performers in various musical styles. As an actor/singer/dancer I have performed in various films, television shows, off-Broadway venues, regional productions, and in pre-Broadway readings. I am a proud member of Actors’ Equity Association and Screen Actors Guild. As a singer/songwriter I have performed across New England with various rock bands and internationally as a solo performer. As a piano teacher, I believe in catering to each student individually as well as creating a supportive and fun environment. It is very important to me that piano lessons are a joyous experience for the students, the teachers, and the families. I am so thankful to my clients over the past 15 years who have helped me to develop the best ways to meet these goals. It is my mission to bring the joy of music to as many children as I can. After many interviews, I am lucky to have found two talented people with stellar personalities who share my philosophy. I am so happy to welcome Jessica Cannon and Franca Vercelloni to “Piano with Jess and Friends.” ************************************************************ HELLO, MY NAME IS JESSICA CANNON. I have been teaching private piano and voice lessons for many years in New York City and in Rockland County. I trained at Indiana University School of Music in Bloomington under many wonderful teachers and mentors, including famed soprano Teresa Kubiak and award-winning pianist Winston Choi. As a singer-actress, I have worked in film, television and in many off-Broadway shows. Proudly, I have also starred in several programs for children, including the Oppenheimer Award-winning "Potty Power" and the kid favorite "Monkey Doos." I am a member of Screen Actors Guild, Actors' Equity Association, and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists. At the piano, I am comfortable playing and teaching a variety of styles, including classical, jazz, blues, and pop. I believe in a sensitive and fun approach to teaching music, focusing on the individual needs and talents of each child. I am very excited to be a part of "Piano with Jess and Friends." ************************************************************ HELLO, MY NAME IS FRANCA VERCELLONI. I am classically trained and studied piano performance at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. I have performed as a solo classical pianist, and have accompanied many singers and instrumentalists in the styles of jazz, blues, rock, pop and everything in between. I have worked as a musical director, vocal coach and arranger regionally and in NYC and can be heard playing at piano bars and restaurants around the city. I sub in as the fiesty bandleader in the off-Broadway production of Tony n'Tina's Wedding. I recently taught music and theater to young students in the NYC public school system during a 12-week after school program in conjunction with Queens Theatre in the Park. When not on a piano bench, I am an actor, singer and accordion player who plays with the western world's only all-female accordion ensemble, The Main Squeeze Orchestra. I am a member of Actors' Equity Association, the Screen Actors Guild, Local 802 of the American Federation of Musicians and AFTRA. As a piano teacher, I want to help my students develop a strong musical foundation so that they get excited about their progress, find joy in playing and experiencing music, and have lots of fun. I am very happy to join “Piano with Jess and Friends.” ************************************************************ Hello, my name is Michael James Roy. I have been playing the piano since the age of ten and playing professionally for over ten years. I honed my craft while I studying at California State University, Long Beach. I have directed and musically directed over thirty shows including Godspell, Grease, Pippin, Seussical and Oliver! I have accompanied many choruses and shows. I have taught piano privately, in workshop and at the Creative Planet School of the Arts in Los Angeles where I worked for two years. I currently music direct middle school and high school shows all over the city through the Society for Educational Arts. I also can be seen playing piano at various shows and piano bars throughout the city, including the Time Out New York Lounge and Marie's Crisis. It is my goal to share my great love and enthusiasm for music with my students and inspire them to find their love and enthusiasm for music as well. I am thrilled to join the "Piano with Jess and Friends" team! ************************************************************ Hello my name is Keith Johnson. I received my guitar training from the Guitar Study Center at the New School, the Kuumba Jazz Center, as well as in private lessons. Through my work as co-author of two full-length musical theater projects, I am actively involved in playing guitar and singing in a wide range of styles covering pop, rock, jazz, blues, and ballad. My beginning students will explore a variety of genres including pop, rock, blues, and jazz. They will also learn music theory and how to accompany themselves singing. Later on, they will learn to apply theory to analyzing harder tunes and transcribing solos. In addition to my music training, I have a background in ballroom, swing, and Latin dance which I draw upon for rhythm and style. Also related are a high competency in figure skating and skateboarding. My athletic and dance training influence my physical approach to guitar playing. I believe that playing music should be a fun and joyous experience. I look forward to continuing to share that with my students. I’m happy to be a part of “Piano with Jess and Friends.”
