The Brazilian MCs Picaretas, a.k.a. MC Pica and MC Reta, became an instant hit with the release of their 2001 debut EP, Dram en beiss, sem o beiss (that means Drum 'n' bass, without the bass in the Brazilian official language, Tupi). It had a successful release party in front of Brasilia's most famous gay nightclub, Truc's 109, and had all its copies sold within minutes.
The band's future was promissing but, five days after the cerimony, MC Oho, the manly voice behind many of their hit songs, was shot by his former girlfriend Didi, mentioned in one of the EP's hidden songs. As commotion spread in Brasilia's funk community (starting the West Wing - East Wing wars of that year, that produced other famous casualties, such as the killing of DJ MauMalcher), Brazil learned in shock that MC Oho could no longer sing, as a result of his injuries.
In the meantime, MC PRX, a.k.a. MC Reta, and the band's co-producer, Didjêi 171, began to work on their own side projects, without much success. PRX was later envolved in a series of incidents at famous local nightclubs and dated the daughter of a famous Brazilian senator, Menina Cleuci.
After years of intense vocal work, Oho managed to fully recover and, alongside his former partners, began to record their follow-up EP, still untitled.
