The “Piccola Accademia degli Specchi” (“Little Academy of Mirrors”) was founded around the end of the year 2000 in Rome (Italy) and it is specialized in the performance of contemporary classical music, with particular attention to the so-called minimalist and post-minimalist experiences. The founder members are: Alessandra Amorino (flute/piccolo), Assunta Cavallari (piano), Donato Cedrone (cello), Claudia Di Pietro (alto/soprano saxophone), Valerio Marchitelli (violin), Giovanni Rosati (piano, musical direction) and Matteo Sommacal (arrangements, artistic direction). On many occasions the ensemble has collaborated with other musicians, increasing or modifying its line-up. The ensemble's repertoire includes many composers who were or have been active for the last thirty years, like S. Reich, M. Feldman, L. Andriessen, E. Tüür, M. Nyman, W. Mertens, P. Glass, Y. Tiersen, D. Lang, G. Fitkin, K. Jenkins, T. Riley, J. Cage, G. Ligeti, S. Jeffes and W. Susman. The Piccola Accademia degli Specchi's project has also the aim of diffusing the music of living Italian composers like I. Ravinale, G. Sollima, F. Di Fiore, M. Sommacal, F. A. Mirenzi, L. Einaudi, M. B. Panitti and P. Carlomè. The ensemble has been invited to participate to national and international music festivals, often performing compositions in world premiere, and recorded several original movie soundtracks, for documentaries, commercials and independent cinematographic productions. Music performed by the ensemble is regularly radio broadcasted in Europe and USA and appeared on WNYC’s program “New Sounds”, presented by J. Schaefer.

BROADCASTING ALERT
On Friday, the 30th of October 2009, 18:40 UGT, a whole radio program in the series "Fuori Circuito", "Tornando a Casa", on Radio RAI UNO, was dedicated to the "Piccola Accademia degli Specchi", with an interview to the composer Matteo Sommacal by Enrica Bonaccorti. A new "madeleine", available on Nuove Tendenze and prepared by Francesca Vitale, was dedicated to the French photographer Raphaël Blasselle and to the composer Matteo Sommacal.
