"There are some who add, who sum up, who gather, who pile up, who join together. Then there are others, who subtract, who give space, who go to the essential. Picidae belongs to the second category. ... Calming, almost immobile songs"
- Rockmondo, France
Picidae has existed for four years. The very flexible little duo have played in all kinds of places, from small acoustic happenings in bomb shelters to
electro-acoustic concerts in cathedrals and old factory halls.
The music they make has a kind of renaissance and child-like whim to it,
and Picidae's unique sound is found through the combination of the ancient
instrument lyre, a wabbly old autoharp and a trumpet.
Picidae have among other places played at The Pit Inn (Tokyo), Aoyama tuki miru kimi omou (Tokyo), Flørli (Lysefjorden/Stavanger), Punkt Elope - Punktfestivalen (Kristiansand), Canal Street (Arendal), Sjømannskirka (Göteborg), Blå (Oslo), Young Star - Oslo jazzfestival (Oslo) and Emanuel Vigeland masuoleum(Oslo).
June 2008 Picidae released their debut-EP "yes make me dream". The EP was recorded at Cabin Recorders (Susanna & the Magical Orchestra, rockettothesky, Shining) and produced by Even Ormestad (Jaga Jazzist, Thom Hell, Marit Larsen) and Audun Borrman (Lars Martin Vik, Navyelectre). The EP can be ordered here.
"The duo's debut-EP gives you the shivers from the first acoustic guitar strum, in the stupefying «Bullitproof», and floats onward into a symphonic, waking dream of glockenspiel, brass tones and strings." - Jørgen Brynhildsvoll, Universitas
"Hushed tones that impress themselfes on the soul"
- Tore Myrberg, Aust Agder Blad
"Mediaeval and etheral sounding music which takes you up in to the higher, mental stratums of air".
- Torgeir Eikeland, Fædrelandsvennen
