The four musicians known as Pickford’s Party form the history of a band whose music is as diverse as the background of its members. Frontman John "Skipper" Ruzicka first met bassist Rob Renovales in 1995 at the U.S. Naval Academy. Without being able to stray too far from campus, the two self-taught musicians would sit in the dorm and learn songs from their record collections.
Reunited in San Diego in late 1998, Rob and Skip played on and off for the next few years, finding temporary help from various drummers and guitarists. They continued their unique, acoustic-style classic rock performances under the moniker Skip’s Garage at venues like Thruster’s Lounge in Pacific Beach and the Arena Club at the San Diego Sports Arena.
In February of 2005, they found unmistakable chemistry with new drummer Nick Vincent-Maloney. With over 300 shows under his belt and 3 studio albums, Nick brought a new level of professionalism to this budding rock group. With a new outlook and a fresh attitude, the group changed their name to Pickford’s Party in early 2005.
Finally, lead guitar virtuoso, Colin Farnell joined the band in the summer of 2005, bringing his unique style to complete the group. Colins laid-back, yet powerful guitar work helped the band focus on original material and in the summer of 2006, Pickfords Party recorded their first real demo CD.
Pickfords Party continues to gain momentum and to date has played over 100 shows throughout California and Arizona at places like Mammoth Mountain Ski Resort, Wavehouse Mission Beach, Whiskey Girl, Coaster Saloon, and RTs Longboard in Pacific Beach. Who knows what the future holds for this talented bunch, but you can bet it will be a fun ride!
Hey guys!!
We wanted to personally invite you to our show at the Beuaty Bar tonight (april 9th)... because you smell nice.
We're playing with a band from out of town called Brown Shoe, so we'd love to give them the opportunity to play in front of a lot of San Diegans...
