The Pierrot Lunaire Ensemble Wien ® is an international appreciated ensemble founded in Vienna by the flutist Silvia Gelos and the pianist Gustavo Balanesco in order to counteract the discrepancy between the reality of the musical life on one side and the dreams of musicians on the other. The main aim of the ensemble is to offer distinctly different concert programs to audiences, and at the same time widen its view and understanding of concerts. Typically for this internationally casted soloist-ensemble is its innovative programmatic work and its self-accountable organizational structure. When Pierrot Lunaire Ensemble Wien® produces international concerts it reserves considerable space for the classic works of the twentieth century. In order to develop these exchanges and progress beyond the stage of mere discovery, and with the purpose of developing cultural relations. Pierrot Lunaire Ensemble Wien ® regularly collaborates with Austrian and foreign institutions. As part of their pedagogical approach, the musicians of the Pierrot Lunaire Ensemble Wien ® give workshops in contemporary music for 8 .. 13 years old children and the constant project: Presentation of ..Schönbergs Pierrot Lunaire op.21.. for upper-school pupils in cooperation with international institutions. They give also instrumental master-classes. This teaching is aimed primarily at young students in various disciplines (instrumental classes, contemporary techniques, notation, contemporary chamber music, etc) With their extensive knowledge of modern and contemporary music, and their experience with young musicians, Pierrot Lunaire Ensemble Wien..s performers are an excellent coaching resource for students working on repertoire from the 20th and 21st Century. Pierrot Lunaire Ensemble Wien ® contributes to the discovery of the works and the musical ideals of young Austrian and foreign composers by including a pedagogical approach to their works that brings together the musicians, the composers and young students from other countries. Pierrot Lunaire Ensemble Wien ® invites young foreign composers to participate in its international musical season. The Pierrot Lunaire Ensemble Wien® is presenting worldwide 50 .. 60 performances a year of contemporary music in all aspects and the highest artistic level, in addition to confirmed styles at international festivals, important concert events, in notable concert venues and its own concert cycles. PIERROT LUNAIRE ENSEMBLE WIEN ®	2009/11/11 11:40 PIERROT LUNAIRE INTERNATIONAL COMPOSITION COMPETITION 2010 Composers from all over the world without age limitation - are invited to present works for the Pierrot Lunaire Ensemble Wien ® Created on an initiative of the Pierrot Lunaire Ensemble Wien ® the Pierrot Lunaire International Composition Competition 2010 will launch its third edition during the 2010-2011 seasons. This competition for chamber works will be open to composers of all nationalities. Its aim is to encourage and promote musical creation while developing lasting ties between the Pierrot Lunaire Ensemble Wien ®. and the composers of today and, in this way, actively contribute to a renewal of the chamber repertoire. Deadline for entries: January 31, 2010 (certified by the post office stamp) Instruments: The compositions submitted for the competition must use ONLY the following instruments, either together or in sectors, involving a minimum of 2 performers and a maximum of 5, without conductor and without vocal participation. Flute(single performer including piccolo, G alto flute) Clarinet in B-flat(single performer including A-clarinet and B-flat bass clarinet) Violin(single performer) Cello(single performer) Piano(single performer) Prize for the winning Composition:1.Prize: Euro 5.000,- and minimum three performances by the Pierrot Lunaire Ensemble Wien ® during its 2010-2011 international concert tour season.
