I started playing acoustic guitar as a kid, probably to discover later that I needed something that was bigger and could go lower and deeper. So it had to be bassguitar. After fooling around for a few years, I took lessons. My first teacher back then, Pablo Nahar, a bassplayer originated from Surinam, taught me in no time the good basics of playing. Later on I applied for a study at the Conservatory of Amsterdam, and I got in. I enjoyed lessons from dutch great musicians/teachers like Jan Hollestelle, David de Marez-Oyens, Lene te Voortwis, Theo de Jong and Charly Angenois. These guys really showed me the way to develop myself, and I still use their valuable information nowadays. I'm not a bassplayer that is restricted to one or a few styles. I try to keep my musical world as diverse as possible, by participating in all kinds of music and projects. Nowadays I'm playing in several bands with different styles, but with the tendency towards playing original compositions. It will always bring new stuff to learn, whether it be useful for me or not. As a bassplayer, the first thing I bring into playing music is steady timing and groove, as I consider it the most important thing doing my job as a member of the rhythm section. .. .. .. .. .. .. ..

Of course I can mention the great musicians here, like the great bassplayers from the past an from today, but they inspire me anyway. In my profile description I mention a few. A lot of unknown musicians influence me as well, whether it be a nice sound, a great feel in groove, or a beautiful musical line from maybe another instrument for example. I always keep my ears open for those things I notice while I'm playing or listening, and those that stick into my mind I try to adapt on my own instrument.

    Hi Piet,
Mooie My Space. Ben benieuwd naar je music samples, en wat heb jij leuke gigs. Oja, wel grappig dat je in je bio zegt dat Pablo jou bas leerde spelen in 'no time'. Terwijl je superlekker 'in time' speelt. Groove along, en jat mijn vriendenbox terloops ook maar even leeg hoor.
