When talking about Chicago Jones, being a product of his environment
becomes a compliment rather than a cop out. Born in Paterson, raised in East Orange,
New Jersey Jones is no stranger to the hardships that unite the lower middle
class and poor communities throughout the country. The same oppressed
and ignored communities that birthed the hip-hop genre and its legends
as a way to have a voice against such injustices. With influences such
as Bob Marley and Tupac Shakur, Jones chose to separate himself as an
artist by producing music of quality, content, and meaning that would
not only entertain but also inspire the people of such communities as
well as educate those outside of such communities.
Since moving to Philadelphia to pursue his career, Jones has already
made his name known throughout the underground and mainstream scenes
with various collaborations, projects and by playing an influential role
in the formation and development of Record Holders LLC. Coming straight
out the gate in 2005, Jones released his first mix-tape Barney the
Purple Piff Monster which earned him a steady internet following and
local buzz throughout the Tri State area. After countless club
performances, radio show appearances, winning the coors light freestyle contest of 2007, and hip-hop
dvd features all along the east coast; Jones ended 2006 with the release
of his second mix-tape GMFB hosted by DJ Omega.
Currently completing work on his debut album Life In Poetic Form,
releasing a collaboration album with artist Kae Hock, and also releasing
his third mix-tape titled Growth and Development; Chicago Jones is
taking a hands on approach to bringing back the meaning and voice of the
people that is Hip-Hop.
