The STUDIO: Pigeon Eater is a recording studio. Yup. We're right next door to Walter's on Washington at 4209 Washington Avenue in Houston, Texas. Pigeon Eater is lovingly run by Terry Nunn, aka "the soundman that made Walter's famous (check it on YouTube!)", Jeff Johnson, aka "the drummer from the Monocles" and Keith Shahan, aka "the guitar player from that band that always dressed up like zombies."
The GEAR: We're running a plethora of mics (ranging from various Shures, an array of different Audix models, Sennheisers, hotter than poop Sterling and Rodes condensors, and then some!) into our 32 channel Soundcraft Ghost board. From the Ghost, we push the signal through a Motu 24I/O device into Nuendo (Cubase on methamphetamines), where we make you sound just like Britney. Or Justin. Whichever. We won't judge. Resting peacefully along side of the Ghost is a rack full of various outboard compressors, effects processors, EQ's and two 16 track 1" reel to reel tape machines courtesy of our good friend Jaime, of the esteemed Static House Studios (thanks Jamie!). Pigeon Eater currently has 2 recording rooms: the Live Room (tall ceilings and hardwood floors) that is fully equipped with a 6 send snake to hook everyone up with simultaneous headphones so your band can go at it like you usually do at practice and shows (if multi-tracking is your thing, we can totally handle that, too); and the Dead Room in the back that we use for "maximum control" situations.
The SKINNY: **STARTLING NEW DEVELOPMENT!!!**With the recent "operational" status of our analog tape machine, we've decided to offer digital-to-tape transfers. For those of you who REALLY, REALLY wanted to record to analog, but couldn't due to budget restraints or lack of resources or what have you, we can take your digital recordings and slam 'em hard to tape so you still get the fat, analog sound that you were going for! Its kinda like a pre-master of sorts. We've done this on a couple of different projects already and combined with capturing all initial sounds through our analog board to begin with, its proven flawless in killing some of that digital high end that analog purists crinkle their noses at. And we're doing it for super cheap, too. Just ask us about it!
