Pigeonwing Strings represent the novelty and organic nature of American old-time music from the 1920-30s. They play the music of the Appalachian Mountains not according to a formula but with creativity, passion, and energy, drawing upon numerous influences for their sound. They incorporate styles as diverse as Québécois fiddle, close (brother-style) vocal harmonies, early bluegrass instrumentation, and modern songwriting.
Comprised of multi-instrumentalists Pria Schwall-Kearney (voice, fiddle, banjo, feet) and Greg Fair (voice, mandolin, guitar, banjo, percussion), Pigeonwing Strings strives to ensure that while offering their own interpretation of old-time music, the essence of the traditions is not lost. Greg and Pria proudly root themselves in what has come before and capture the mystery, joy, grit, and sorrow that is at the heart of traditional American music. This sensitivity is a testament to their maturity and accomplishment as musicians. Greg has toured the east coast of the U.S. with the old-time stingband, The Varnish Cooks, and has performed with the internationally renowned Crooked Jades. Pria has performed with various groups at most major Australian and New Zealand festivals, as well as touring North America in 2008.

FACEBOOK Urban Monroes Thanks a lot. Hope to see ya there!
Great to meet you both, hear your songs, stories and of the artists behind some of the songs you played, and to share a stage with you @ Melbourne Folk Club on Saturday...Loved your up close and wholly acoustic set too, a lovely touch.
Hi guys, Cheers for the add. Your music sounds great! I just loved 'Sally Anne'! Keep those sounds happening. I'll catch you at the Fleurieu Folk Festival in October. I'll just be there as a punter this year. Don't forget to drop by for a listen.
Hey Pria! Congrats on the new duo - sounds fab :) Yeah, I'm in Scotland for a while - looking forward to the Alasdair Fraser week this month - doing cello with Natalie Haas - Yay! All the best with your touring xo
Oh my gosh..are you serious?! I never heard you, I'm SO sorry!! Now I feel TERRIBLE!! man.... Celtica is pretty small but ok....more of an "event" than a "festival" if that makes sense. Last year they had a proper stage for the main venue which helped and the sound was good. Also, I have a fiddle club committee meeting coming up and I'm gonna bring up visiting tutors so will see if they're interested in a Quebecois workshop sometime. Ok...I'll continue to grovel, and hope you'll forgive me...maybe it's time for a hearing aid!
PRIA!! How come we never get to connect in person???!! Hope you had a good festy at PA......mine was INSANELY busy...but good....in a busy kinda way. Hope you're well :-)
