Pig Pen Studio is set in a beautiful countryside location in central Essex. We think it's one of the most relaxed and inspiring places to create & record music you're likely to find... We specialise in acoustic music, but we're also happy to welcome everything from poets to pub rock bands (of whom we've had plenty!) and aim to quickly capture your performance with all the energy and magic still intact... Having said that, we can of course use the wonders of modern technology to edit, overdub, experiment and generally tweak your recording to your heart's desire!... Experienced engineers, we're musicians too and will happily provide percussion, guitars & bass guitars for no extra charge. Other instruments/musicians can of course be sourced for you... Large Live and Control rooms... St Annes Castle music pub 5 minutes walk away, supermarket - 5 minutes drive, Chelmsford town centre & railway station - 15 minutes... Where possible Pig Pen Studio uses Fairtrade, organic, recycled & generally eco-friendly &/or ethically sourced products. We think this is important. We can also offer advice & assistance with reducing the environmental impact of releasing your music...

How much will it cost?
£150 per day (9.30am - 7pm)*
£18 per hour for part day (min charge 2 hours)
Included in this price - 4 copies of the finished mixes, a DVD containing the master data files & as much Fairtrade tea & coffee as you can drink!
How many songs will we be able to do?
That's a bit like 'how long is a piece of string?'
If you're a reasonably well rehearsed band recording part live, part overdubs (which is how we'd recommend),
3 songs in a day is a good target (with perhaps a bit of extra time for mixing depending on what level of
quality you're looking for).
We've also had singer songwriters & duos recording totally live with no overdubs recording 16 songs in a day,
though that's rare.
Can we record during the evenings as I'm only free then?
Yep, evening sessions from 7pm - 9.30pm can be arranged
(at the part day rate £18 per hour and not on the same day as a daytime session).
Apologies if you're nocturnal but we choose not to work later than 9.30pm as in our experience
most people's brains (including our own) stop working about then.
