   About PilferMusic

BLOGSPOT.com a blog of mine... guitar oriented... almost neglected (damned close).

Gear Junkies    ... you know you are...

www.newmusiccanada.ca some other music of mine... some new, and some from years back... when I wrote as "cardboard cat" with the invisible Chris Mazur.

PilferMusic is the other Steve.

I am open to collaborations and would enjoy the addition of instrumentalists to play over some of my compositions... or work with me on creating songs.  I'm pretty booked up until late 2008... one more degree to get out of the way.

My studio continually appears in a state of flux, though I wish it wasn't... I intend to build a room in this lifetime to house the evolving beast, and I hope by then it's settled down a bit.

I run a hardware and software based system, and cannot see myself ever dumping all the hardware for a just a laptop.

Tools

Aphex Systems Ltd - Aural Exciter Type C

Alesis

  • DM5 - 18 bit Drum module with 12 trigger to midi converters,
  • Midiverb III
  • Nanocompressor
  • 3630 Compressor Limiter with Gate
  • DEQ-230 Programmable Digital Stereo Graphic EQ it's 2 channels of 24-bit A/D/A conversion, 28-bit internal processing, and a 48kHz sample rate.

Behringer

  • Ultrapatch Pro PX 2000 48 point patchbay (x2)
  • Ultrapatch Pro PX 3000 balanced 48 point patchbay (x2)
  • Autocom Pro MDX 1400 compressor/limiter/expander/gate
  • V-amp PRO Virtual Amplification
  • BCF-2000 MIDI Controller
  • T1952 Tube Composer
  • T1953 Tube Ultragain

Boss

  • EH-50 Stereo Enhancer
  • LS2 Line Selector
  • CS-2 Compression Sustainer (two of these)
  • CE-3Chorus
  • MT-2 Metal Zone
  • FT-2 Dynamic Filter
  • SD-1Super Overdrive
  • OD-2RTurbo Overdrive

Clavia

  • Clavia nord G2 with expansion board - virtual modular synthesizer

  • Digitech - S100 Studio Series multi-effects processor

Ensoniq dp4+ Multi-Effects Processor with 4 independent 24-bit stereo processors, 4 Ins and 4 Outs, 400 presets and Dynamic MIDI control

Electrix

the Electrix stuff is great for "real time" knobs and tweaking as it sends midi on all the buttons and knobs,

    • Filter Factory
    • MO-FX
    • Warp Factory

    Electro-Harmonix

    • Big Muff Pi NYC Re-issue
    • Big Muff Pi Russian Re-issue,

Emu ESI-32 OS 3.02, 32megs of ram, with SCSI, (not used much now),

    Korg

    • Poly-61 (no midi... yet)
    • M1R with 14 PCM cards - groovy
    • ESX1 Electribe SX Production Sampler.
    • DRV-3000 multi-effects processor
    • MS-10 - monophonic synthesizer (needs love)

Novation - Bass Station Rack monophonic analog bass synthesizer.

    M-Audio/Midiman

    • Midisport 8x8 (two of these) & a 2x2 as well.

    Roland

    • Juno-6 analog 6 voice poly synthesizer... (no midi)
    • Gr-300 The World’s Fastest Guitar Synthesizer
    • MKS-7 Super Quartet
    • MKS-50 - the little known synthesizer module was their Alpha Juno in a slim, 1U rack mount unit.
    • MKS-30 Planet-S - with OS update not just a racked JX-3P, it really has more in common with the GR-700 guitar synthesizer
    • MKS-10 Planet P, is it digital is it analog?  It's 80's Roland and it sounds brilliant!
    • SH-101 - monophonic synthesizer, featuring a 2 1/2 octave 32-note (F-C) keyboard
    • SDE-1000 digital delay (no midi)
    • TR-707 - drum machine
    • TR-606 - drum machine
    • PD-9 Electronic drum trigger Pad
    • PD-5 Electronic drum trigger Pad

    Yamaha

    • AN1x - Analogue Physical Modeling Synthesis
    • TX-416 - can be expanded to 8, but currently has 4 of the original DX7's in a big rack
    • DX7IID - improved sound quality over original DX7 and allows bi-timbrality, I've also added the Greymatter Response E! Expansion
    • TX81z- the first FM synthesizer to employ oscillator waveforms other than sine, in order to achieve its unique, grating timbre, with better D to A than some of it's keyboard cousins.
    • RX-5 - One of the best 12 bit drum machines ever made, with clean and punchy samples.

x0xb0x - TB-303 reproduction with MIDI-control.  I've completed 289 with some modifications but still have another in a box.  I'll get to that... when I get to it.

    Simon & Patrick S&P 6 CW Cedar

Ovation - Magnum II converted to fretless with an Aguilar OBP-3 Bass Preamp

Aria Pro II - Steve Bailey 6 string bass - fretted

Vox - Brian May Special Guitar Combo Amplifier. 10 Watts. 6.5 in. speaker. 'Deacon System' (his Deacy amp/Treble Boost combination) electronics.

Sennheiser - HD570 Headphones (these are great), AKG - K-55 Headphones (these suck), Gemini PL-9 Rack Mount Power Supply and Light Module, Furman PL-Plus Rack Mount Power Conditioner/Supply and Light Module, PB-40 Patchbay, Permapower Sockets, E PluS Rack Mount Multiple Outlet Strip, yadda yadda yadda blah blah & blah

    Warning.  Opinion follows....

I've met some cool people here on myspace and have made some great friends, some of whom I communicate with almost daily.  I've heard some great musician's and feel they are wonderful people creative people.  But I'm also amazed by the amount of crap that's on here... not musically because that's art,  and a matter of taste and to be honest I do believe it's all valid... whether I (or someone else) like it or not.  So do me a favour (that's Canadian for favor), do not request an add unless you are a musician, or you like the tracks I'm making, because if you're just collecting "adds" for whatever reason pass me by.  Peace and love baby.
