Lots of bands want to be Pillers Of The Community – a raw, head stomping, half-joking, half leering affirmation of life in Britain’s most deprived streets. They ain’t even close though, because they don’t know anything about the weird humour and twisted economics that dictate life at the dark heart of the East Midland’s toughest council shit holes. Unlike POTC all their aggressive energy is second hand posturing, a swaggering front imitated from old punk rock footage. POTC are the real deal, a musical project born of desperation and a dire need for escapism. Their upbeat, mosh-up of loose guitar, rave beats and distorted shouty, witty vox is not some flippant art school exercise in irony, it’s down in the dole queue pop, for kids who are more hoody than goody-goody.
