In the musical genre defined by legendary acts such as The Grateful Dead, Phish, and The Allman Brothers Band, one band clearly stands out from the masses. The band is surreptitiously named Pimp The Cat; so don’t ask them for an explanation. However, while there is no simple way of defining the sound that is uniquely theirs, they continue to prove instrumental in keeping the jam band tradition alive. They pay tribute to the pioneers in the jam world, while forging ahead in a contemporary and innovative fashion. Each member of Pimp The Cat brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience on the jam band scene, and together are an experience not to be missed.
While performing in Boston with Dickey Betts and The Great Southern, drummer and producer Mark Greenberg formed Pimp The Cat in 2000. The band released their debut, self-titled album in 2001 to rave reviews from both fans and press, and as a result, was quickly signed to Japanese label Keni International. Now based in New York City, PTC continues to play extensively throughout the Northeastern States. In 2004 their debut DVD titled Just Live: Pimp The Cat in Japan was released as well as a live CD entitled Just Live the following year. Their latest CD, People Make Crazy, was subsequently released in the year 2007. Past and present members have worked with such notable artists as The Dave Matthews Band, Norah Jones, Charlie Hunter, Ratdog, and Moby. The band has also most recently shared the stage with Chris Barron of Spin Doctors fame, and Gavin Degraw to name a few. Pimp The Cat currently includes founding member Mark Greenberg along with fellow musicians Steve Grzeskowiak, Dred Scott, and Jay Wiggin, plus many other talented musicians who join them on stage frequently.
