* FIRST FULL-LENGTH ALBUM COMING SOON! : 2 abstract modal bass parts coalescing to form twenty two introspective miniatures *
I was born in Jersey, Channel Islands, back in 1981. A short flight took me to Leeds College of Music where i studied electric bass on the Jazz & Contemporary Music degree. I discovered a love for electronic music-making with the excellent, but now defunct, Cosmonaut. But they wouldn't put up with my free improvising, so i joined other bands too, namely the awesome funk outfit, Gallo. The alternative crowd ensured that i had a ball for the entire 4 years whilst i wasn't playing - just what i needed after 17 years on my little (but still very much appreciated) island. Loads of alcohol and unusual dancing... //
Moved up to Newcastle University in 2003 where i studied for a Masters in Contemporary Composition focusing largely on 'Glitch music' and its use in live music/improvisation. I graduated in 2004 and have since enjoyed playing with as many acts as possible to fulfil my desire for music-making! I've composed a couple of soundtracks, performed and recorded with great free-improvisers, such as Paolo Angeli, Pat Thomas and Gwilly Edmondez, confusing audiences from Newcastle to Paris. I make people stomp their feet as the bassist for the infectious music of Maybe Myrtle Tyrtle. I appear at Folk clubs and festivals playing with Shona Mooney Trio and Jez Lowe and the Bad Pennies. And now i also run Canopy New Music, a music organisation supporting New/Experimental music-making and learning in the North of England in whatever way we can//
That's enough. I hope you enjoy looking around. If you come to one of the gigs, do say hi. I'm very friendly.

Hi chief, thanks for being our friend, that's some lovely stuff you got going there - and by the looks of things you're also the busiest man on the planet. congrats, trophy's in the post
Stars of the Lid are easily one of the most important and influential bands or our times. Read a review of any ambient or experimental band these days and you will see their name being dropped, and it’s not hard to hear why. Stars of the Lid are masters of weaving sonic textures gorgeously into beautiful, absorbing, minimalist epic drones, wavering between subtly mournful and gloriously triumphant, offering the perfect soundtrack to lucid daydreaming.
Hear Stars Of The Lid play in Newcastle in a perfect church setting for this very special show. Buy tickets now or purchase from RPM, Beatdown or alt. vinyl!
I had a wicked time....went to Graceland, Beale St, New Orleans, Sun Studios, Stax Records, went on a swamp tour and saw alligators - it was a great trip.
I'll be down in Newcastle this Friday as it happens to rehearse with Alistair Anderson, so if you are around would be nice to catch up. I think a few of us are going to meet for drinks but not sure where or when yet!! You can get me a copy of your new cd then!!
Just listened to The Sun - and it's very warm and cosy! Lovely stuff.
So when are you releasing an album then?? I'll be first to buy a copy from ya. It's about time you got those bass pieces out and available to buy. I'm away to Memphis and New Orleans next week for a wee break and then moving to a flat in Hawick. The Borders have well and truely pulled me back!!! Hope your well. I'll be down in Newcastle on the 9th May, so if you're around gimme a shout. Ciao S :)
HI thnx for the friendship and it’s nice to know you! Think it’s nice to be connected with musicians all over the world. In music we are all alike and speak the same language!!! I think you have very nice music, I enjoyed listening to it…… really sounds GREAT ….love it !! Greets from “D E E Z E L” (Belgium) and lots of luck in every thing you do!! If you can find the time check out my music too (thnx)
We are still in Manchester! Living in Cheetham Hill in our very own flat which is far too small for all the crap we own but never mind! When are you planning on coming over?
My first EP, The Rats Rain Down, is available now as a free download from Clinical Archives. Free Improvisation with a skittering glitchy sound palate. Please give it a listen if you can!
