The origins of Pink Panzer are shrouded in myth and mystery:
The band's axemen first collided in February of 2005, when DJ and Mike's girlfriends conspired to introduce the then freelance guitarists. After a series of late-night, somewhat intoxicated jam sessions, they convinced heterosexual life-partners Mark and Joel to climb aboard, forcing Mark to leave his job selling bottled Indian tears door-to-door. Equipped with a rhythm section and armed with a single song (left over from a previous, short-lived incarnation of the band, featuring DJ, Joel, Mark, and Nick "Dinosaurs" Canard), the kaleidoscopic quartet gathered in DJ's cozy den, began to play and never looked back. Just like the Indians.
All veterans of their local rock scenes, the boys are keenly aware of the fragile dynamics of true collaboration, and try to eschew the posessive attitudes that often stifle creative output. The result is an ever-evolving sound, with nods to post-rock, shoegaze, psychedelia and prog, but one which nevertheless remains firmly grounded in the concise format of pop/rock. DJ's e-bow work and sonic atmospherics, for example, suggest the expansiveness of Sigur Ros, while Mike tends to favor subtle, hypnotic repetitions in the shoegazing vein of My Bloody Valentine. This sense of space and texture, however, is anchored by Joel's accessibly melodic bass progressions and tactful fills, and Mark's relentless, controlled drumming, whose frequent time signature shifts and powerful crescendos recall Explosions in the Sky. Shoutout, Hipinion.
