Phil Ziedler with his voice, Matt Brock playing guitar and singing at the same time, Phil Styles at the drums, Ryan McNulty with bass and sporadic singing and Phil Bulleyment with his keyboards are Pioneers.
They made their home in Manchester and have had four years of name changes, sell out singles, nationwide tour supports and the loyal affection of anyone who has caught one of their rousing live performances. Anthemic, three vocal harmonies are their trademark and when propped up by the intricate weave of keys, guitars and drums the effect is immediate and long lasting.
Their influences are huge and their sound has grown likewise with references to U2, Doves, The Smiths and Coldplay punctuating their breathtaking songs that convey a simple message, pointing out the highs and lows of just getting by, with or without a shoulder to cry on. Reinventing the wheel would take time and the band are happy to respond to what people want, and have always wanted, and that is a song to make them dance or grab the person next to them and sing along.
Respected peers Stephen Fretwell, Longview and Starsailor have all stood in the audience and gone away with gushing praise for the band and requested they appear at their shows in support. The bands experience of big stages, not least in front of a sell out crowd at the London Astoria, has left them with an ambition to match and exceed the artists that have guided and inspired them in the past.
The reason for each band member to go the extra mile with a desire for success is the same reason why they bring something different to the band. Meeting at Salford University their origins are separated by hundreds of miles and equally distant backgrounds, but as five brilliant musicians who are also the best of friends, their abilities and desires have combined to create one of the countrys best guitar bands. It is now up to more people to seek out this badly kept secret.
Hey cats, We're playing Thursday 31st July at the Buffalo Bar in Islington, London. Come along!
Here's what the press say about the place: THE BUFFALO BAR is situated outside the entrance to Highbury and Islington tube station opposite The Garage. This basement venue is like a mini-Metro Club, gets quickly packed out and has a really great vibe. The Electric Soft Parade, The Libertines and The Thrills have all performed secret gigs there. It also has a late license. This place really rocks.
The Buffalo Bar - 295 Upper Street Islington. London N1 1RU. UK. 9pm. Entry £6. Nearest tube: Highbury & Islington. (It's directly outside the tube station, downstairs. See you there ;) x Eden James
