   About Pipes Of Panic
KNOWN FOR THEIR THICK HEAVY GROOVE..SLICK SHARP GUITARS AND DUAL VOCAL ATTACK.............. 'PIPES OF PANIC' was formed after their well known Detroit area band at the time 'The Catz Ass' failed to hold a steady line-up after a long stint in 1994. Guitarist Dave Clotfelter who peviously fronted and played lead guitar for the well known Detroit area local band 'Mistaken Identity' for 10 plus years , along with Eddie Golatka who previously played drums for Detroit local favorites 'Jack B.Nimble' for 4 years, and before that 'Razzem' and 'Back Track' in the late 80s/early 90s, decided to form their own "super group"!. Recruited long time friend and local Detroit favorite vocalist from 'Johnny Bravo', and 'Mistaken Identity' Mike Bridgeman, and local bass wiz Mike "Snake" Edwards from huge local favorite 'Sweet Teaze'-the band began writing tunes instantly;writing 11 tunes in less than 2 weeks-complete. Those songs included 'Spinning', 'The Rain', 'Where's My Jesus', 'Prisoner', 'The Real Why', 'Lady Of Mercy', 'Snakejuice', 'No Better', 'Pipes Of Panic', 'Ten Shades', and 'Industrialized'. In The summer of 1995-the band moved forward and seperated with Mike Edwards and recruited a local bassist found in a classified want-ad in a local Detroit entertainment weekly news paper "The Metro Times". He was Jon Zielinski, from local east Detroit band 'Drastik Measurz'. After he was hired on the spot (after a 1/2 hour audition), the writing exploded. The band wrote an additional 10 songs in a month's time with Jon's inspiration, and, along with the beginning 11 songs, quickly jumped into the studio to record a 10 song album at EQS Studios in Rochester Hills, and in Grosse Point Shores, Michigan with the help of producer Robert E. Muccino II -before the thaught of playing in and around the Detroit local scene. The songs that made it on the album were '10 Shades', 'The Real Why', 'Remember When', 'Life', 'Mood', 'The Question', and 'Pipes Of Panic'. A left-over song Dave and Mike wrote at the end of the Mistaken Identity days, which wasnt even planned to be recorded titled ' End Of My Line' also made it on the album along with a incomplete song brought into the studio that was written, arranged, and completed in the studio called 'Out Of My Mind'. The last song on the album 'Spinning' featured backing vocals from good friend Suzie Ferro from Radiocraft! During the overdubbing and mixing of the songs for the album, the band played a warm-up gig at the I-Rock Concert Club in downtown Detroit to get they're feet wet live, and to showcase the new band and new tunes to friends, family, and newcomers. Too keep the band name 'PIPES OF PANIC' a secret until they're debut-they decided to go incognito, using 'Voodoo Rythm Stew' as their "secret warm-up gig" band name, and even recieved a positive review in a local magazine 'The Weekender' about the band and it's performance with that band name! In 1995 the band began playing in the local scene as 'PIPES OF PANIC', playing famous Detroit venues like The Ritz, Paychecks, and the I-Rock as a supporting act for many top local bands, at showcases, and as headliners. The band continued to write & demo songs in their own demo studo that they built in Madison Heights, Michigan-racking up over 30 songs in 1995/96-and recording a 3 song E.P. at Check Sound Studio in Dearborn, Mi. that never was mixed-or released ('Skeleton Key'-'C.O.R.'-'Dont Turn Away'). The band was also featured on a local late night T.V. show "The Bower Hour" in 1996 which featured 2 live taped performances of the songs '10 Shades', and 'Life', filmed from a special show at The I-Rock Concert Club in Detroit just for the T.V. show. Also featured on the show was an in-studio interview of all four members in between the music performances. After a slow interest for local original music in the late 1990's, and a slow club draw in the surrounding area, and also failing to ink a distribution deal on Wallstreet Records in Michigan to release they're debut album-'PIPES OF PANIC' disbanded in late 1997 on good terms, and persued seperate projects. The only project to surface was a 'cover band' Dave and Eddie assembled in 1999/2000-but fizzled out due to lack of interest. In the fall of 2001 Dave, Eddie and Jon reunited together in their old demo studio and wrote, recorded and mixed a song called 'Look In Your Eyes' from one of Jon's many demo's with Jon on lead vocals, and they also completed an unfinished song the band wrote before disbanding in 1997 called 'Soul Forgotten', with Dave on vocal duty. Also in 2002, Eddie contributed on Jon's first solo demo release 'I Believe In You', with the help of Robert Muccino II behind the mixing board again at EQS Studio's. The band has begun planning a reunion/comback project that will include a re-recording of their 1995 album with new tracks.. giving it a proper release, and a return to the stage for many shows throughout Michigan. Some members are still active "musically" today- Brother Dave has assembled a new brilliant cover band 'Soul Provider' (with his brother from 'Mistaken Identity) and play live several times a month, Eddie has reunited with his previous band "Jack B.Nimbe' for a couple shows to close a chapter and end the bands legacy, and Jon continues to write and demo songs on his home studio............But 'PIPES OF PANIC' was never forgotten. Their story and they're music has been Unearthed!............... leading up to the reformation and recreation of 'PIPES OF PANIC'. Enjoy the four selected songs on this site- The powerhouse song '10 Shades' is offered for download- UP ABOVE -it was written in '94 by the entire band including Mike Edwards on bass guitar, then rearranged when Jon came aboard/lyrics were written by Mike, and is taken from the unreleased self titled album from 1995 and was to be the first single from the album. It is also one of the 11 songs written when the band first formed. 'Mood' was written and arranged completely by Dave which features Dave and Mike on lead vocals is taken from the 1995 album also. There are two versions of the song-the long version (on the album), and an edited shorter version was done for radio. It was intended on being the b-side for the '10 Shades' single. 'Pipes Of Panic' is one of many unfinished mixes from the self titled album, and is one of many different vocal outtakes of the song. It was the first tune written and arranged as a band with Mike Edwards on bass in '94-and rearranged when Jon came aboard, lyrics written by Mike. and the title of the song is where they got the idea for the name of the band! 'Life' is a demo recorded in the bands demo studio in pre production before entering the studio to record the 1995 album, and was the actual final stage of the writing of the song. It was written by Jon and arranged by all four members, and the lyrics were written by Mike. It was also the last song written before entering the studio, and almost did not make it on the debut album. Also included on this site are 10 songs recorded at various times of the bands career showcasing the diversity of the band, and many musical styles they could produce. Included in those songs are studio outtakes, 4-track recordings, demo's, and alt. mixes from the self titled album...... 'PIPES OF PANIC UNEARTHED'. They will Return!... ENJOY! Thanks for the kind photo comment. That was a good work horse set in what has become the standard configuration of two kicks, two racks, two floors, one snare and as many cymbals as money can buy, LOL!

Best,
Frankie
