LOGLINE: Four girls ditch school for a Baja surf trip. When one is kidnapped and sold into the skin trade they must grapple with inner demons, life lessons, Mexican wrestlers and legendary bad guys to get her back and get home alive.
WHY THIS PROJECT: One in three women will be assaulted in their lifetimes. Every eleven seconds a woman is raped. Yet our media supports the idea that women can't and shouldn't fight back.
"Pistoleras" features simple, effective techniques taught in the Impact Personal Safety self-defense course that any woman can remember and do, often by observing the technique once. Graduates of the basic six week course reduce their chance of assault to 1 in 20.
Our goal is to get these strategies to a wider audience, explore the complicated issues that prevent women from fighting back, and wrap it all in a fun, funny, thrill-ride with things you've never seen or heard onscreen.
