Pistols At Dawn are a London-based three piece who deal in soaring riffs, glittering instrumental and lyrical malevolence, switching from stripped-down, hushed, melodic intensity to sheer sonic violence in seconds.
“‘The Reaper’ is thickly resplendent in gloomy apocalyptic tension so edgy that you swear you can touch and feel its deathly breath upon you let alone cut it with a scythe, the beckoning darkness almost wrapping itself around you like an impenetrable blanket, all the time the claustrophobic calm before the storming floorshow slowly begins to unfurl with an acute majestic malevolence.”
(LosingToday.com - Singled Out)
“…Sometimes music can’t be explained. I could resort to my usually laziness and throw other bands names at you – no, this is for times when you just need to stand in the middle of your own personal private space, arms wide open, head back, eyes closed, volume right up…. Flag burning music, They know how to be different, defiantly different, impressively different – Pistols At Dawn know to rock out with an edge all of their own. They are quite unique.”
(Organ Magazine - Demo of the week)
“With the hoarse menace of Doves at their best, Pistols At Dawn create a swirling rush of sheer intensity with just mere instruments and voice. The band sound battered and bruised, their souls aching for redemption whilst their eyes are glowing red in the darkness.” (Subba-cultcha.com)
“...moody, dark and melancholy rock that is completely timeless… It’s hard to pigeonhole P.A.D. or say ‘they sound like so and so’ but all you need to know is that this is proper serious rock with a conscience… Superb dark stuff” (Matchbox Radio 24)
Here is a bit about how we came about:
We begin this long tale of wonder and woe
In a tumbledown house many moons ago
Which stood, squat and hunched, in a leaf-choked glen
Well hidden from the prying eyes and meddling of men
Here a large she-wolf made herself at home
Safe in the knowledge that no creature would roam
So deep in the forest, or enter her lair
As she planned to have puppies and bring them up there
Much to her chagrin, one night as she slept
The Dark Lord Beelzebub silently crept
From the gloam of the woodland, right in to her room
And slipped his scaled member deep into her womb
She awoke in the morning far bigger in girth
And that same afternoon she lay down and gave birth
To three utterly bald though quite masculine boys
With fabulous voices and vision and poise
She nurtured her offspring and taught them to kill
And how to eat entrails without getting ill
Til one day they growled: Lets make use of our hands
And move to the city to start up a band.
So they moved and they grooved and they got some guitars
Then played in some pubs and some clubs and some bars
And thats how the legend is said to be spawned
The dirty rock legend of Pistols At Dawn.

Needleandthread presents... {yet another} dirty great big night out.. 19 Oct 2007 the JAMM, 261 brixton road, London, sw9 UK Cost:£6/£5, or £4 before nine.. BARGAIN!!
Room One.. Cyan341 - Tonight we are lucky to have Rednetic label boss Mark Streatfield perform his more techno based material - deep, soulful, and groove ridden, but with all the electronic frills we’ve come to expect from him. eN - atmospheric breaks and harsh edited jungle rhythms with washed out synthetic soundscapes to create bass heavy dancefloor killers. rANdOMoiDz - Dirty shuffling beats chop and change between techno rhythms and wonky breaks, and are guaranteed to make you move. Alt*Ctrl djs - these DJs have played alongside the biggest names in electro and know exactly how to rock a dancefloor. Patscan - combines complex rythyms and sweet melodies with a definite dancefloor focus. Uncle Smutfist - an utterly unique frenzied but playful sound that dances between distorted dubstep and battered breaks. between the rooms, we have live performance pieces from The Great Antagonist, and guests..
Room Two.. ZeJ - combining live electronic drums and bass with effervescent synthesis and live gadgetry, provides an experience impossible to ignore. Red - brixton based multi-vocalist, building his tongue twisting rhythyms into live loops, then turntable-ising the results.. King Porter Stomp - a dub - ska juggernaut of rhyme and funk on a mission to entertain, enliven and enlighten. an unstoppable octet of big horns, fat beats, heavy bass. Bogus Gasman - anarchic dub-core.. punk-laced reggae.. what they lack in covers, they make up for in brass, fat old basslines, and guitars that go chk chk chk chk.. Bunty - one mouth, one mic, one loop station, one delay pedal.. one hell of a show.. dj’s include Mr Hovis, Dj Dark.. should be a bloody good one!
