Pitom is guitarist and composer Yoshie Fruchter's musical experiment and exploration into the music that has inspired him. Taking cues from the punk/avante rock aesthetic of bands like Sonic Youth and Frank Zappa and the experimental "downtown" Jewish scene, including Zorn and Hassidic New Wave, Pitom rocks you hard - but with class, and both a respect for and disregard of tradition.

Praise for Pitom:
"A rocking band performing catchy, hooky compositions that both pay tribute to and challenge the Jewish tradition...Pitom is a hard-edged new addition to the legacy of Radical Jewish Culture"
-John Zorn
"A dazzling debut"
-The Wall Street Journal
"I was going to say something nice about Yoshie Fruchter's guitar playing but I was too busy trying to steal his licks. Sounds like a virtuoso Talmudic dissertation on the corner of 2nd and Avenue C."
-Tim Sparks, award winning guitarist and composer
"Pitom quartet affects a deranged-surf-band aesthetic...Sonic Youth and Slayer jamming at a Purim party"
-JazzTimes Magazine
"Guitarist Fruchter's cantorial background infiltrated by a heavy dose of squawky jazz, grunge, Zappa and Zep"
-JazzWise Magazine
"Pitom is a first-rate debut CD by an incredibly creative, remarkably capable, and gutsy band that takes musical risk-taking in stride. This CD is a must-have for Tzadik fans and fans of instrumental progressive rock, as well as for those who simply enjoy intense music in general."
-JazzReview.com
"Think of an electric "Masada" on steroids....[Pitom] sound like vintage "Mahavishnu Orchestra" laced with surf music amid "Sonic Youth" drenched reckless abandon. Count this gem as a top pick for 2008, regardless of genre"
-eJazz News
"Marrying Klezmer, Frank Zappa and the West Village avant-garde, [it's] music you can, by turns, tap your foot to, dance a punk hora to and scare small children with."
-Buffalo News
"Fruchter is clearly a talent to be reckoned with"
-Jewish Week
