Pito Perez was formed in the year 2000 in the city of Guadalajara, Mexico. Miguel Mendez (Guitar and Vocals), Abraham Bustos (Bass and Vocals) and Jorge Chavez (Drums) got together to make music after playing in bands like Gong and Palida Fonk and playing on the scene for some years. The name Pito Perez was taken from the character of a famous novel called The futile life of Pito Perez, a book written in the 1930s by Mexican writer Jose Ruben Romero. The band wanted a very identifiable and Mexican name.
Con mas Poder Pito Perez..s debut album was recorded in January 2002 at Sonic Ranch and Leboot studios in the cities of Tornillo, Texas and Los Angeles, Calif. It was produced by Jesus Chuy Flores. Con mas poder contains 12 tracks in which you can hear the diverse style and punchy sound of the band. The singles 5 o 6, Lupita and Globo have had great success in the charts and on video channels such as MTV and Telehit.
Pito Perez started an extensive tour in support of the album in the most important cities of Mexico and Colombia, playing venues for as many as 25,000 people. The songs Lupita and 5 o 6 hit the top of the charts in many radio stations around the country, as well as music video channels.
Important tours with different sponsors gave the band good exposure. They played festivals such as: Musica por la Tierra, Vive Latino, El Tortazo Festival (Bogota Colombia) and Slam Fest and have palyed with bands like: Mana, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jaguares, El Tri, Molotov, Maldita Vecindad, Jumbo, Kinky, Zurdok and more.
Pito Perez returned to the studio in the year 2004 to record their second album Tal y Cual, produced by Alex Gonzalez drummer of the Mexican band Mana, during the months of February, March and April in the city of Los Angeles Calif. It was recorded at the legendary Conway Studios, where artists such as Blink 182, Dave Matthews band, Foo Fighters, Beck, U2 and others have recorded. The album contains 13 tracks that are powerful and melodic with more introspective lyrics. Songs like Ahi, Convenceme and Tal y Cual which gives name to the album demonstrate this. At the same time the band left space for more delicate sounds in songs such as Locamente and Adios. The name Tal y Cual was chosen for the C.D. because it was the best representation of the sound of the band: Tal y Cual which means: As the band is.
"Tal y Cual" hit the stores in October of 2004 under the Warner music label. The first single was Huarache Skate. The songs video was recorded in the city of Guadalajara, Mexico and was very well received by the fans and public. The band started touring in support of the new album throughout the country. Pito Perez played their first U.S. gig in Los Angeles Calif. at Chido Fest a tour headlined by the Mexican band El Tri. After this came appearances with bands like Cafe Tacuba and Green Day in Dec/2004. They also played the Santo Desmind Festival in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico for almost 40,000 people, and toured Hard Rock Cafes and Hard Rock Live throughout Mexico.
The second single of the band Locamente hit the charts in radio stations throughout the country. The video for this song was recorded also in the city of Guadalajara. The band started a tour during the months of October and November of 2005 through Mexico City, closing a national battle of the bands contest sponsored by Pepsi: "Tour Play Rush". Pito Perez will end the year touring.
