With the Iraq war in it’s fifth year, economic meltdowns and environmental destruction at new heights and historic civil rights laws overturned, the world watched on in hope as the United States voted for change, historically electing its first African American President.
This event marked what many believe and hope will be a major turning point, not only in U.S. history, but the world over. A chance for a new beginning where we will find a new way to reconnect and respect each other, regardless of color, faith or belief.
In that same ballot, California voted on marriage for same sex couples - a civil rights battle as powerfully and hotly debated as when the law against white and black marriages was challenged and that fundamental right to freedom, love and security was legalized in 1948. Unexpectedly, they voted to remove these most basic and fundamental rights.
These two events clashing represent a major turning point and the first of many challenges to change, not only in the U.S. but the world over. Change that ushers in a new beginning, where we must find new ways to reconnect and respect each other, regardless of faith, race, belief or orientation - an eternal dream, brought into narrow focus at this new dawn when our voices and our actions will count the most.
At this pivotal time in history Minna was inspired to write Love Shines, an anthem for equality, peace, love and hope for our new future - a powerful and uplifting reminder that when we open our hearts, we truly can change the world.
It's snowing in New Jersey. Very unusual for us this time of year. Maybe we will get lucky this year and have a white Christmas. We haven't had one in 27 years.
